Actually Houston...still hot & humid & occasionally Hurricanes. Definitely putting in a mini-split A/C, as well as an air exchanger (to recapture the cool air). The SIPS are all tied together structurally & provide excellent R-value.

I've already planned out spots for the welding table, air compressor, CNC mill, 2D plasma cutter table (which I'm going to fabricate myself), etc. etc.

Hadn't thought of the exhaust hose...

It has taken me 3 lunch breaks to read through this thread. I'm impressed with the attention to detail.

...just added 4 pages of "toys" to the Christmas/wish list.

that is going to be bad ass. Be sure and post up some pics of the garage when it is done. I have been trying to layout a plan for my garage as well. I just need to figure out where i am going to settle first haha

Yes, I'm still working on it. Designing & building the new garage has been pretty time-consuming. Fortunately that process is just about done!

I really wanted to create a workspace that would enable me to work on all aspects of the car (and other projects) including electronics, metal fabrication, welding, carbon fiber, etc. I had to achieve this with a limited budget & physical constraints. I think my solution will work out well...

Here are my original design renderings:

And here is how it turned out (I'm still experimenting with the interior layout):

The Mini Split A/C unit should be installed next week & the drywall after that. Then I can start using it in earnest.

And I finally brought over the car last week. Here he is waiting to go into his new home:

In the mean time I've been taking the time to practice Tig welding and to plan out some changes for the engine & electronics. Once I get the car actually *in* to the garage I'll post an updated plan.

I posted a build thread on the whole project here:

Hey that looks great! nice little shop to work in, I really like the hoist, I have been wanting one of those for a while. I have been working on my mini and also bringing it to the dark side LOL, kinda started out the same way.

I was quite interested in your twin charge we have done a couple of them over here in CA, currently looking into the AEM infinity system once they get it released with the drive by wire. Did you do your own base mapping? for the Motec? How is the car doing on the track? If you don't mind me asking what is the track size? and what are the times you have done? I haven't seen to many people take on this type of project and get it dialed in the way you have. Congrats on your progress, Are you running CP pistons and Carrillo rods in your build? The pictures look like the CP coated one's. Anyway what a outstanding job you have done.

When I installed the Motec there wasn't a base map for the Mini available (not sure now), so I had to build it up myself from scratch. It's just as well because the boost behavior of the twin charge is pretty different.

Getting the drive-by-wire to work properly was a bit of a struggle, but I'm very glad I did. The benefits far outweigh the disadvantages.

I've mostly run it on tracks in Texas. They range anywhere from 1 to about 3.5 miles. I have the most data from Texas World Speedway, Motorsports Ranch Cresson (near Dallas) & Motorsports Ranch Houston. I plan on going back on doing more logging in the fall...

FYI I have a few videos here. But most of these are from before the turbo upgrade:

And to answer your other question yes, they are CP pistons. I'll have to double check on the rods...

Glad your keeping things going. Garage looks great man. I am super jealous.

I ended up going to turbo only instead of twincharge btw haha

Took awhile to read this thread --- I'm thoroughly impressed with your achievements! You should consider marketing some of the changes, might be able to recoup some expenses.

Only read it once and probably skipped over where you mentioned how much boost you achieve --- and in your case, where it's measured. Would you share this info again?

Awesome Mini, killer garage and loved reading this tread. Wish I still lived in Houston cause I would like to check out that Mini in person. Still not that far away though, down here in Corpus Christi and still have a a bunch of family and friends in Houston.

Hey there! I found your post showing pics of your aluminum valve cover. I was wondering if you'd make another one perhaps? You're running a FMIC, have you tried doing one that fits a TMIC?

Sorry i'm posting this here. The forum wasn't allowing me to post a comment on the thread showing all the pics of the cover.

You know, I just signed up and didnt realize that you could only post on the thread and not the picture itself. I was wondering how to message someone directly as I couldn't find that function?

Oh ok. At the top right side of the page there is an envelope, click on that and you will see “Start a New Conversation” click on that, put the member or members you want to be in the conversation, add a title and your question. This is the same as a PM but you can have more than one person if you want.

Let us know if you have any other questions - I'm working on creating some how-to's for the site.. now that we are working on finishing the migration from VB to this new platform. Still lots to do. :D
