I'm putting together a series of surveys to gather information about common failures in stock components. This is the first in the list. If your STOCK crank pulley has failed/broken on your MINI click here to take this survey. The results will be analyzed and shared with the community.
The survey is hosted on Survey Monkey and is posted on various sites. There are limits to the poll functionality in the forums and the hack to add it to this site has not been updated in years. There are flaws in all the solutions but the route Pir8 97 has taken is probably the most effective.
'03 Cooper S built in December '02. Tracked 2 days a month and a couple of errands a week. 65K miles. Original crank pulley. Alan
it would have been nice to get more info in there like. "i have a crank pulley and it has never failed" and how many miles it has been on. or are you only talking about stock crank pulleys and not aftermarket crank pulleys? but really both can fail and should have been questions for both styles and failures and not failures. just some idea's.
he's talking about stock if you are going to talk after market then you need the.. "i put this on and threw a rod" and "I put this on and spun a bearing" and "I put this on and lost my oil pump" or whatever stupid reason.
2004 mini s.I broke my stock crank pulley the other day it sucked belt got all shreaded up hahaha im so pissed like who does that never heard of it till now. 63k and at the time only my cold air was one and ive never had any pulley reduction on this car. :incazzato::mad2::mad5:ut::nonod::eek6:
I've seen a few fail lately. We are stocking the OEM ones as well as the new performance dampers. This way we'll have options for a customer to get either the new lighter performance damper, and OEM damper, or aluminum crank pulley.
Steve at "Custom Mini Shop" had 2 OEM crank pulley failures come in within the last 2 weeks. Has yet to see any aftermarket failures.
Got over 91K on mine and no problem. Most of the failures that I know of came from not being installed properly. I know of only one that actually the water pump shaft broke it was on 04 and was bought 2nd hand and owner did not even know that a pully was installed.
62,000 KMs (38,000 miles) on mine and everything is ok, but Stella is still a baby compared to the mileage on some here that have failed (so *fingers crossed*)!
