I was referring to getting the residue off the trim, not the swirls

I've had a tough time getting the tape to both fully cover and remain on the trim. Once the buffer touches the tape it lifts off. Part of that may be the advice that Heather gave me to treat the trim before polishing/waxing so that if I get anything on it, it can be removed easier. I've still got some white crap on the trim and haven't found a way to remove it yet. Now, I'm careful to keep the PC head as close to the trim as I can but always error on being to far and not to close. But that hasn't helped me correct my earlier mistakes.

Yeah, you EITHER tape OR treat the trim... doing both won't work so well, as you've seen. And you have to tape a little of the paint also...

If you use Black Wow (or almost any other trim dressing really) you're going to have a hard time getting the tape to stay in place on the trim, about the only solution I've found is to have a small bit of tape on the paint itself so that it can adhere and just being really careful. I haven't been able to do this on the MINIs trim but when polishing my dad's truck I found I could slip the tape underneath the trim itself and fold it over the edge to get good protection, this also prevents wax from building up between the body and trim.

I tape where it is had to keep the RO away from the trim, otherwise I pre-treat with BW. Waiting for PBW:crazy:

Just say no to tape. You know if you drop the "ta" and add "do" you get "dope" - coincidence? I think not. :D

Thank you very much... I tried tapeless once. Never Never Never again. I'm still scrubbing my trim. And I pre-treated with BW as directed.

    And the results

The taping with a 1/8" 'lip' on the paint worked pretty good. Still got a little on the wheel arches :mad5: Let's hope the Pre-Wow gets outta testing ASAP. Alcohol and elbow grease SUCKS!

Nice job after all that banter. If all else fails, you should contact MINIMaybee for one of his 10 hour detail jobs.

I have seen his work, can't wait for our MINI5280 Garage day. :arf:

When I come out for MITM maybe instead of ripping it up out on some mountain roads we can crawl in a garage and detail for 12 hours. Man that's livin!! :eek:ut:

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one that thinks a two-day detailing session is not odd. :D

Oh it's odd I can assure you

We are just a bunch of freakin' looney's so it just seems normal when you get us in the same room :D

    Example-

I walk in the house toward the end of day one (about 4 hr's in) covered in sweat, comment to wife "2 steps down, 2 more to go" Wish I had a camera for the look of abject pity my wife showed me, or was it incredularity that I had scaled new heights of obsessive compulsive behavior? It was the pity, yeah thats it

    Hey everyone,

Yes Nathan lucked out with the Pre Pre Wow. Sorry to make everyone wait, but I'm going back to the drawing board on this one. I'm just not entirely happy with it yet. Yes it works and works very well, but until I'm happy with it, I just can't release it.

I have been known to wash and hydro every other day, so two days is not to OCD.

So Richard, what dumpster did you toss the old stuff? :ihih:
