Way back in the dark ages when I got my 03, one of the brake lights stopped working about 2 weeks after I got it. Tried new bulbs, did not help, turns out it was the Body Control Module that had gone bad, dealer put in a new one. Your 2nd gen does not have a Body Control Module, but it has something similar, just can't remember what it's called now a days.
Just thought of something else, on my 03 the reverse light (single lamp) stopped working, turned out it was the switch on the tranny, the only switch on the 1st gens that is NOT controlled through the Body Control Module. Not sure if this is the case on the 2nd gens though.
