So, found out today that we have to pay more taxes this year :mad5: This is the first time in many years that we have had to come up with more cash. In talking to my friends, it seems that this is the norm, people having to cough up more cash this year than ever before or at least in many years. So how bout yall? There goes some of my mod money  Now don't get me wrong, I know we need to pay taxes, and have had no problem in the past, but I thought the "new" administration was for the people? Hope and change.....yep, it was a change this year :mad2:
I could unleash my CPA wife on all of you, but I am no going to. Paying, or not paying taxes on April 15th is a function of proper planning. What you should ***** about is the percentage you pay in the course of the year. Don't forget to include FICA, Social Security, Medicare, State IT, SDI, Sales, Property, Vehicle Registration, Gas tax, Use tax, various excise and utility taxes and assessments.
It is. It's the new People's Socialist Democratic Marxist Leninist Party. We get what we vote for comrade citizen. :frown2: Jason
Being in Texas we don't have a sate tax but we have user fees out the wazoo. Every time you turn around there is a new or increased fee. Add that to the taxes and fees paid to the state, county and local jurisdiction on items such as cable tv, internet, phone, cell phone, gas, electric, water, sewer, trash, etc and this crap adds up fast. 2 bucks here and 3 bucks doesn't sound like much till you sit down with all the bills and total it up.
Thing is we know all that and have had no problems until this year, so I think something changed? Was the Child deduction removed this year?
Not sure. I don't have kids, so it doesn't impact me. I know there were some "make work pay" credits that were not processed properly by most payroll services for a while. Without seeing details of your last year return and this year it would be hard to tell where the discrepancy is. Who prepared your taxes?
No, what happened was, in order to "stimulate" the economy, they reduced your withholding last year, the reason you're paying now is that you didn't pay as much last year along the way - now you're just catching up (or is it Ca'ching? :eek6: ) And yes, I had to pony up additional this april to cover the difference. But I have my withholding rate set up so that I always owe them a little - on purpose. I'd rather have the use of my money all year rather than give it to uncle sugar interest free then get it back the next year.
I'm getting back about twice what I got back last year. Well over $3k combined state and federal. A lot of it is due to programs from this administration, like energy saving incentives. /shrug..
EXACTLY. All the talk about how The One had "cut taxes to give families some relief" - really what they did was adjust the WITHHOLDING TABLES - so they were taking less out every week - but they did NOT adjust the TAX TABLES - so you still owed the same amount over the course of the year. For people who typically get refunds after filing (like me) this meant smaller refunds. For people who come out "even"... it meant owing taxes on April 15. Reason 6,347,985 why I'm po'd.
Oh yeah... I coulda gotten a lot more back if I had bought a golf cart. So i guess my anger isn't entirely justified.
This is definitely the most republican car messageboard that i'm on. It's been a great year for me. - Andrew
We're just living the stereotype. Everyone knows that all MINI drivers are macho arm wrestling PBR drinking NASCAR watching hairy chested testosterone pumping bible thumping redneck Republicans. Just ask any random guy in a pickup truck in Alabama when you drive through. He'll confirm that's exactly what he thinks we all are.
My comment was not political in any way, it's just the facts ma'am..... I'm pretty much a-political, I think they're all crooks!
