Whatâ€™s it like to be a 16-year-old race car driver? (driving.ca)

Young touring car racer, Samantha Tan, has come a long way from sliding her Power Wheels Jeep around the house

Like many of us, Samantha Tan learned the fundamentals of car handling in an electric Power Wheels Jeep when she was 6 years old. She fondly recalls driving around the house in it â€œtrying to do 180sâ€ and remarked that even then, she enjoyed the feeling of speed and control. Only a true racer would spend their childhood clipping apexes in the living room.

The Power Wheels Jeep gave way to a significantly faster go-kart and she says that she enjoyed it so much, that she decided to go into racing. Now 16, Tan has been competitively racing cars for four months now. Her first race was at Virginia International Raceway where she drove her Honda Civic to a fourth place finish. A fairly impressive first race, considering she started fifth on the grid.

â€œThe first time I competed in a race car, I was completely overwhelmed and completely shocked,â€ she says. â€œThere arenâ€™t any electronic aids, thereâ€™s no ABS, thereâ€™s no stability management, and thereâ€™s no power steering, so you really have to wrestle with it.â€

Tan now drives a 2010 Mini Cooper S JCW in the Canadian Touring Car Championship. Her car has just over 200 horsepower and is up against other compacts like Honda Civics and Mazda 2s.

Sorry there hasn't been much of anything to see in this thread. As you can tell from the stats below, they've been doing well, but neither Nathan nor I have received updates or releases from Octane like we have in previous years and articles are hard to come by.

That said, here are the current stats in the Touring Class, their main focus. Not bad, eh?

CTCC Champions To Be Crowned This Weekend (paddocktalk.com)

The Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Continental Tire (CTCC) will crown its Champions this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). After fourteen rounds of competition on some of Canadaâ€™s most challenging race tracks, it is fitting that the Champions will be celebrated at Canadaâ€™s Home of Motorsport.

The CTCC season began in May at CTMP and followed with events at Montreal, Calabogie, ICAR, Shannonville and Trois-RiviÃ¨res. Each track provided a different challenge for the CTCC drivers and included a rare night race at Trois-RiviÃ¨res. Over forty-five drivers have competed this season, of which fourteen were new to CTCC. Trois-RiviÃ¨res presented a first in Canadian motorsports when five female CTCC drivers competed at the same time on the track.

As the Championship moves into its final event of the season, the top three positions in each class are still undecided, except that Michel Sallenbach has secured the top spot in Touring Class. This will be Michelâ€™s first Championship after finished second the previous two years. To celebrate, he will be debuting his new Mini Coupe this weekend. The following drivers still have to battle the second and third places in the Championship; Karl Wittmer (#82 Honda Civic Si), Paul Gravel (#48 Mini Cooper S JCW), Eric Lacouture (#43 Mini Cooper S JCW), Damon Sharpe (#84 Honda Civic Si) and Samantha Tan (#45 Mini Cooper S JCW).

Super Class has been a close battle all season with the top drivers sharing the podium many times throughout the year. Roger Ledoux (#4 Subaru WRX STI) leads going into the final event but is closely challenged by Remy Audette (#21 Honda Civic Si) and Nick Wittmer (#91 Honda Accord Coupe). Both drivers could potentially displace Roger and take the overall win this weekend. 2013 Super Class Champion Scott Nicol (#1 Honda Civic Si) follows and could end up in the top three also.

The competition in B-Spec Class has been intense all season long. Three rookie drivers took up the challenge of B-Spec racing and have learned a lot this year. B-Spec is the perfect place to learn how to compete at the highest levels. Because of the relative low-powered engines, momentum is everything and mastering the craft of carrying speed through a corner is what will take these drivers to a higher level. Normand Boyer (#7 Mazda2) leads the Championship going into the final event of the season. He is actually a veteran racer teaching his son, Manuel, the way around the track. Manuel also races a Mazda2 but will not be able to finish the season due to car damage sustained at a previous event. Rui Teixeira (#31 Honda Fit) will be Normandâ€™s main competition this weekend. Rui set the fastest lap here at CTMP in May which was quite an accomplishment considering he had never been at or driven the track before.

Final 2014 CTCC This Weekend, 2014 Champions are Crowned (touringcar.ca)

Bowmanville (Ontario), August 31, 2014.- This weekend, CTCC presented by Continental held its final event of the 2014 season. Two races were on the program, which would eventually crown the champions in all three categories. In Super Class, Gary Kwok and RÃ©my Audette shared the victories, while Roger Ledoux clinched the title. In Touring, Damon Sharpe finished in top spot both days but it was Michel Sallenbach who claimed the 2014 championship. And in B-Spec, Normand Boyer had a perfect weekend, winning both races and earning championship honours.

Presented at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, this final outing of the 2014 CTCC season was full of promise, notably in Super Class, where RÃ©my Audette was ready to fiercely compete in hopes of beating Roger Ledoux to the 2014 championship. Audette earned the fastest time in free practice, claimed pole position in qualifying, and led the first race on Saturday afternoon. However, on the sixth lap, while sitting comfortably in first place, a valve broke in Audetteâ€™s Honda Civic Si, forcing the driver from Boisbriand (QC) to abandon the race and effectively ended his chances of being crowned with the title.

At the end of a hotly contested race, Ontarian Gary Kwok won his first of the year, crossing the finish line eight seconds ahead of Scott Nicol. Benjamin Distaulo rounded out the podium, ahead of Tom Kwok and Roger Ledoux.

In Touring Class, Michel Sallenbach, already guaranteed the 2014 championship title, debuted a brand new Mini Coupe. Damon Sharpe won the race ahead of his teammate Stuart Clark and Quebecker Charles Leclerc.

In B-Spec Class, the young Ontarian Rui Teixeira was hoping to continue in the wake of his victory at the Grand Prix de Trois-RiviÃ¨res but veteran Normand Boyer, who has perfectly mastered the secrets of this fast track, didnâ€™t leave him any chance of winning.

The second competition, contested on Sunday morning as the 2014 season-ending race, saw RÃ©my Audette launch himself into the lead right from the start. The Quebecker was never caught as he built up a gap of twenty-five second by the time he crossed the finish line. Itâ€™s the seventh victory in fourteen races this season for Audette. He earned championship runner-up status behind Roger Ledoux who, by finishing the race in sixth spot, was assured the necessary points to clinch his first ever championship title as the 2014 CTCC Super Class winner.

Finishing this race behind RÃ©my Audette were Gary and Tom Kwok, who put on a show, followed by Benjamin Distaulo, Nick Wittmer and of course, Roger Ledoux.

Damon Sharpe and Stuart Clark earned another one-two finish in Touring Class, this time ahead of Alain LauziÃ¨re. In fourth, was the 2014 champion Michel Sallenbach, in front of Karl Wittmer and Paul Gravel.

B-Spec Class saw Normand Boyer win again ahead of Rui Teixeira. Boyer is the 2014 class champion, followed by Teixeira and then Normandâ€™ son, Manuel Boyer.
