Ok, so I pull out heading to work this morning, and a car is suddenly behind me (Where the hell did they come from?) so I floor it so I'm not the tool that pulls out and doesn't go.
Anyway, Artemis flew! He seemed extra peppy today. Now, it's about 69 degrees here right now, nice and cool, no humidity- so my question: does temperature dictate performance that you've all noticed?
And secondly, is this the theory behind a bigger intercooler?
    Thx.

    Yes.

    Yes.

Bonus: It's also the theory behind cold-air intakes.

Gotta love peppiness in the morning! :biggrin5:

I also notice the "no humidity" makes a difference as well

Don't care what color it is as long as it's fast. =)

I did not consider the difference a larger intercooler makes until after, it is huge!

In the woulda/coulda/shoulda dept I shoulda done that right after all the suspension mods

Outside of a ECU tune the most noticeable HP gain you can buy

With a larger intercooler are you gaining HP or keeping what you have by keeping the charge cool?

Intercoolers can not gain HP, they can only help to preserve and maximize the existing power potential.

Exactly BUT; one can have less pressure drop than another which effects HP. So two IC's basically the same size, built by two different companies may not perform the same. And a poorly designed IC that may be larger, may have more pressure drop than the one your replacing. 2cents

That is what I thought, but I wasn't sure. I think it is a common misconception that they are power adders rather than power preservers.

    Thanks....

I've also wondered about that too. Seems if you lose boost it isn't much of a gain. Guess if one wants to go with a larger intercooler some research is in order.

Exactly, it could be a wash in the end or even worse.. So make sure you get a well made, well designed IC.

Are the GP intercoolers highly regarded? Wondering since the factory used them they might not have drawbacks & only gains.

Yes amongst all the replacement ICs for the OEM supercharged cars, ya just can't really beat the GP IC. Amazingly Mini/BMW new what the were doing with this one.... ;) LOL

....and as far as the stepped core from Helix for the Turbo cars; it is ranked right at the top from everything I have heard and seen.

    PS: Just my 2 cents.
