    Hi,
I installed an electronic water temp gauge from Autometer and an M7 hose coupling for the temperature sensor. The only time I get a temperature reading is when the AC is on or if I'm stuck in stop-n-go traffic, then the gauge suddenly springs to life. The rest of the time the needle just sits on 100 F (minimum reading). Any ideas?:confused5:

Make sure all the air is out of system.

Electronic gauge? Are you getting temp reading from the ECU or is it just a digital display?

Does the sensor have a good connection to ground?

sorry, I meant electric (vs mechanical) not electronic. It is wired to the cigarette lighter for power and has a thermocouple insert on the lower radiator hose - the part where it runs underneath the overflow reservoir.
Air sounds like a likely culprit Mr. Jim, as the voltage seems stable when I measure it and wiggle the wires.

correction: I have the Cravenspeed hotlink, not the M7 hose coupling.

Oh, wait... the cravenspeed instructions show the hotlink located on the upper rad hose, not the lower one.
OK that might be the problem:lol: Thanks for walking me through it.

    Update on the Hotlink install??

Installing on that lower hose would put you on the wrong side of the thermostat housing, that is why it would come to life in traffic when the thermostat opens. At least you know that is working properly.

Thanks Kellen, that is reassuring. Sounds like I have a job for Saturday. I think I'll pick up a hose wrench to make it easier, getting them off by hand the first time was a pita.

    that did the trick :)
Temp reads 225-230 F at cruising speed.

^^^ Thats on the high side. Check your coolant and and make sure your radiator isn't too beat-up or covered in "bug juice". ;)
