How do you test disregarding something? I mean, if I ignore this, didn't it take some active effort and awareness to avoid it? I think the new owner is performing some unsavory form of psychological testing on us, similar to what happened at the infamous Tuskeegee institute.

This is only half true. If he told us to regard something, most of us would totally ignore it. Now if you tell us to disregard something, well, that simply cannot go unchallenged.
