As a Veteran I would like to Thank all my fellow Brother & Sister Veterans, for without your support through some very sad times it would have been that much more difficult to make it through them.
And to all the Active Service Men & Women I Salute You All!!!

 

To those who've served and given so much of themselves, thank you very much!

My Dad (he's 83) was in a store the other day (before veterans day), and he's wearing his old baseball hat that has his old ships name on it.

Some young dude (early twenties) comes up and says "Thanks for serving mister, I really appreciate it." and shakes my Dad's hand.

Made my Dads day, and dare I say week? You bet!

So, he tells me this story...then he sticks his hand out to me and says "Thanks for serving son."

First time ever.

It's a week later now, and I still can't get over it.

 

Well let me second that. Thanks for serving.

This is a big change from the early 70's. We came back to people screaming "baby killers!" and spitting and throwing stuff at us.

I had a hard time supporting our activities in Viet Nam and other countries from a "why are we here" perspective. But those of us in the military had little other than our choice to do what we were sent to do. We did what we were sent to do. We would have done it wherever we were sent.

I try to understand those who were so angry at us - the soldiers sent to do a job. Those people's anger was misplaced. I am very glad times have changed. I think that the people who showed their anger at us now have grown up and understand that anger at a soldier is misplaced. Thank God.

 

Onramp, Thanks for taking care of us when we came back. It has been veterans that pushed Congress and everyone else involved to remember that the military follows orders. Join us on the Military Veterans Social Group where all vets are welcome. If your a family member of a Vet your also welcome as we would be hard off if it were not for those keeping us sane at home

 

On Veteran's Day, I had stopped at a small place for breakfast. I sat down and put my old unit ball cap on the chair, when I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was a old gentleman, at least 80, wearing a faded cap with USS something on it. He said he saw me come in and wanted to wish me a good day. I stood up, shook his hand and thanked him for serving. I can still see the big smile on his face. Just makes you feel good.
