As we all rush to judgement keep in mind that these images were taken from very far away with a very long lens at a high angle according to the folks over at Motoring File.

Try to reserve the vitriol till you see it in person please.

Ok, here goes......
The R50/52/53 has a look that just nailed it as far as I am concerned. From the curves of the bonnet to the angle of the belt line to the "Shoulders" and curve of the hatch. I just love it. The front view gives one the impression of a determined aggressive look.

Now the R56..... I think they refer to it as a "Face Lift". Yea well the look gives me the impression of someone's forehead being pulled back just a bit to tight. Looks like it wants to squint but can't. The "Shoulders" on the hatch look like they are shrugging.

Now......the F56. Looks like it got a face lift and now it can't close it's eyes. And it's mouth is in a constant state of "Ohhhhhh S***"

But, time will tell. Just imagine what the next Fiat 500 will look like. Now that is a scarey thought.

 

My R53 will still be running and continue posting on M/A long after I die.

It's ok all the 2nd and 3rd Gen owners know deep down inside they only got a Mini because they wanted a cool car like the 1st gen owners bought when the MINI was rerelease s by BMW.

One problem Jim, the original mini was the best selling car EVER in Europe and was named the car of the century.

* It was not available in the states.

I have a 1969 TR6 that's 44 years old and it still looks and drives like it was new, so with people like Dave and I "all will never die" justa sayin

Like any car company Mini faces the challenge of expanding their customer base while trying not to alienate current customers. I will reserve judgement until I see the new design in the flesh. Also, I think the photos are a bit distorted nd the color choice may make a big difference as well.

I am a long time Corvette fan and have owned several. With each new model the current owners threaten to burn the designers at the stake but then buy lots of them.

 

I agree. No real turn off to me. I guess you and I may be the only two left here once all the R53's die and they will. :lol:

Your OK too Dave, but that is not right in my case. I saw an R50 with a five speed and poor MPG. An R56 "S", with no low end torque and poor MPG. So I bought an R56 justa for the MPG. Then we bought and S, with the low end torque. My next MINI will be a 3rd gen. I don't live in the past anymore.

They gotta switch it up. Do something different without being different. A couple more generations down the road, a couple decades away. Then they will release a "retro" MINI that takes you back to the days when you were young and in your R53 (me), and I will be compelled to buy it.
