On RealOEM, you can see that the engine part number is cross referenced with the 2 Series wagon (F45).

The number that had been around the web for awhile is B48A20o0, which might be the Euro version.

^^^That makes perfect sense, as the JCW and 225i Active Tourer have the same PS ratings in EU. Curiously, the JCW ECU tune has 22 fewer LbFt, so bringing it up to 225i levels would be "what the BMW factory intended"

Sales Figures are BS because they did not sell crap last year.
It's hard not to have great numbers because 1 over zero is 100% sales gain. -

I Don't Care as I will NEVER own one. -
It all comes down to economics in the end. As most automotive CFO's will say, if they make enough money on the bread-n-butter cars, then they have the opportunity to make a fun car to appeal to the few of us enthusiasts that buy new. I envision the 4-door hardtop being a big seller and will poach sales from "typical" 4-door hatches like the Focus, Mazda3, Golf, etc, as buyers see the MINI as the fun and personable alternative where in the past with just the 2-door they couldn't convince their spouse a 2-door plus a rough and loud ride would be a wise idea. If a bunch of people buy 4-door hardtop's and Countryman's, then that improves the likelihood of continued 2-door JCWs and hopefully something unique like the Superleggera.
So, this isn't a situation where we're defending or shilling the F56. It's just calling it out like it is; a business decision. It's still a free market, so if you're going to buy new, you have every right to choose whatever car you want.
I met a pair of very nice guys from MINIUSA at MOTD that had brought the new JCW hardtop. It was of course an automatic since they haven't started production on the manual trans yet. They were kind enough to hand over the fob and let us climb around, start it, rev it up, and poke under the bonnet. The exhaust note sounds very nice. It has a reasonably aggressive growl to it without being immature, which is a difficult balance. It's an exhaust note that you can appreciate from day one, yet grow into and not get tired of or annoyed with it. A nice addition to the lineup. -
Ok here's a part I could use some help with.
BMW calls it an "AMOeK", and here is the RealOEM picture showing its associated duct [#10 in the picture]. It's the duct in the driver side front bumper that replaces the fog light. MINI's press release claims there's "additional cooling", but RealOEM isn't updated with any new coolers [yet], so I'm not positive what exactly it's for.
If you use Google-fu, you'll find that many BMW's use an "AMOeK", however what that is exactly is a mystery to me. That sort of acronym is unfamiliar to me. Any ideas?Attached Files:

We keep saying that a bigger MINI is not better but they keep getting bigger and they keep selling more of them then the smaller 1st Gen cars.. Of course they are in it to make money what business owner isn't, and I would guess there always were plans for some sort of 2nd Gen car unless the 1st Gen completely flopped, and even then really. Why start the New MINI Brand if the plan wasn't to keep it going, for a profit.. I wish they'd have left the Cooper alone and they could have still done all the other models for all the other buyers, then we might have had a chance of the new MINI ( Cooper ) someday being looked upon like we do the Classic with all it's different models.. It's just out of the norm for a car company to not tweak or do whole sale changes to the car every few years. Days of the Mini Classic and VW Bug are long gone unfortunately... The modern version would probably be the Miata of just gradual changes for the most part of the years.. This next Gen Miata is probably it's biggest change from one year to the next..

The core model shouldn't increase in size. That's what cars like the Countryman and new Clubman are for.
That being said, the F56 is not a big car by any means... it's still much smaller than the competition. It's just a bit bigger than the R50/53. -
Well...It does have to increase in size, or it wouldn't exist. BMW is using the chassis cross platform; it wouldn't offer the MINI if it couldn't do this, it would be too expensive otherwise, or perhaps more accurately, not profitable enough to make it worthwhile to BMW. It compromises the MINI, but it keeps everything sound financially.
What I wonder is where the Rocketman will fit in with all of this, since it will have to be a seperate platform. Will there be a BMW brand off that platform too? Or will it be so cheap to produce that it won't matter? -
In which case, the Rocketman will not be anything worth buying because it will be underpowered and soulless. -

Maybe BMW will work with a different manufacturer to share chassis expense like they are doing with Toyota for their possible new Supra, and BMW's Z4, 5, or whatever it's going to be.... What was BMW's plan with the MINI if not to keep building them assuming it was profitable? Were they just going to shut it down after a year or 4 maybe 6? The MINI Brand does and always will play 2nd fiddle to the BMW Brand, so it's not like they were trying to enhance the BMW Brand with the MINI..

Possible, the only thing is I don't think the Superleggra is going to be a high volume vehicle, more a limited production niche thing, meaning what Zillion said about sharing a platform with somebody like Toyota still could be a possibility. I just don't think there's enough there to justify a single platform for both the Rocketman and Superleggra, but that's just a guess.

Was that the chassis that was to be shared with Toyota for their new Supra? If so wonder if they will bale out on it as well.. It had the potential to have been a cool looking car..
