Not sure I would call Ferrari a car company as they make the bulk of their income through branding and licensing their logo/name... .kinda like Playboy (I think they still print them right?!).....
You can get the logo on your jackets, socks, shoes, gloves, pants...bet even on ladies private underthinggys (if not...they should)....lol...
I think the struggle they face is keeping the volume high enough to be cost effective to compete, but low enough to remain a aspirational..... -
My local rock 'n roll radio station just changed format to 'alternative' whatever so yes, nothing is sacred anymore as long as knuckleheads push the buttons. Ferrari and Ugo will no doubt some day mean about the same thing.

Yes Zippy, Playboy is still in print. My barber looks to have a great selection, but told me it was "too early for that" last Friday around 9:30 am...

Might have to rethink my fantasy.

Welp. According to Automotive News Luca resigned with his last day the day before the new Chrysler Fiat entity starts trading on the NYSE in October.

I think it could be the end of Ferrari as we know it.....with Luca gone I think the F1 team will founder, and even tho Marchione is getting both Alfa and Maserati on better and better footing, I question whether taking Ferrari this route will be a good decision.
I also wonder about the branding, will volume kill that sacred cow too? think about the new theme park in the sandbox, if you can buy a new Ferrari on any block, will the brand still have the cache to bring in the petrodollars? -
Lest the poor Ferrari owner be showed up by the Porsche owner that hauls his classic 356 garage queen with a Cayenne, now that Luca is out the way watch for this to be the new vehicle for the Vintage Garage Queen Ferrari owner. Ford is annoyed too, the sale of those high end fully optioned Excursions are going to drop by like 3 a year now.

Feel the same way Nathan, but I also felt like this when Enzo died... Fingers crossed.
Huge what if here so please bear with me, I'm just spit balling... What if the unkindly split between Luca and Ferrari was a way for Bernie to hand over his position to Luca and it not look like the F in F1 was short for Ferrari? -
Arghh....Already saying build more.
-
Luca won't want for money...
-
Dollars to doughnuts they don't own a hair salon.....if they do and they pull up to work in a new Ferrari, their clientele will disappear faster than food stamps at a flea market...lol

The 355 (non F1 gearbox) would be my choice... Or a 458.

They are very good looking cars, but I'd honestly rather have a 911. With the Porsche, you get to drive it more than you work on it.
