I've watched part 1 and thought the show had promise, the drifting thing gets a bit dull after a while and I really don't think any of them are driving the cars at high speed, I mean how can Clarkson do quick opposite locks with that huge belly! LOL part 2 was dismal! apart from the engine noise of the Aston the rest I just fast forwarded , the dead celebrity thing is getting old fast. I hear part 3 is better so I'll wait and see. I'd like to see more cars and less of them playing the fool.
Next bit has a proper car review of a Porsche GTR, and a BMW M4 Then it's on to the film, this time an examination of "eco-friendly" body styles for Land Rovers. Wood, Mud, and Meat.
It's a good show with automotive entertainment and comedy. It's not a super in your face, car facts show. People need to remember that. Still 1000 times better than old 1/2 hour Autoweek.
Wouldn't say it is 1000 times better than Autoweek because it was an actual car review show, so not the same format as TGT. People need to remember that.
Correction Motorweek is the show I am talking about not Autoweek. Motorweek is still on TV and it SUCKS! John H. Davis, is old and just reads BS specs and Pat Goss should be in a box by now.
You know, if you watch the old Motorweek shows, ol John doesn't sound like he does now, where he overemphasizes every word and such.....but yeah, that show sucks monkey balls.
The only redeeming quality for me is when they have high end cars that I don't often, if ever get to see.
I just watched Episode 6. Might as well call it Episode Sux. Are they only doing this for the money? Yes, Amazon is paying them many, many £'s, but I had hoped they'd actually put a little bit of effort into the Grand Tour. But it just seems they are going through the motions without really trying. So, this time they set up the their tent in rural Finland in winter. Why? There was no reason. Don't get me wrong. I'd like to learn more about Finland and about the car culture there. After all, this little country has produced a lot of F1 drivers (including several F1 world championship drivers), not to mention many generations of world class winning rally drivers too. But did any of that get featured? No. Did we get to see any interactions with the Finnish people? No, not even with the audience members in the tent. The Grand Tour might was well have set up the tent in any anonymous snowy field in any unnamed country with stuffed audience members. Watching them eat chocolate candy bars and play with condoms? Really?! That's they best the could be bothered to do? Oh, the P E NIS joke with the three sweaters? It was only mildly humorous the first time they did it on Top Gear because they were getting one over on the BBC. Now, with TGT streaming on Amazon, what is the point? Okay, the mini-documentary in this episode of the GT40 was well-done. But that was it. The RHD Mustang bit? Huge yawn. And they still had the two worst segments, which remain painful to watch: 1) the kill off of another celeb (still not funny), and 2) The foul-mouthed American driver (not even entertaining the first time). The show is in real trouble. Yeah, I'm still watching it, hopeful it will turn into something worthwhile. But I honestly don't know if they will save it.
Hmm....Don't know if I'd declare a show that's shattering ratings numbers "in real trouble.' The only really bad episode was the desert fiasco. There were misses on TG in the day.... I haven't seen episode 6 yet--GT is one of my elliptical/treadmill shows, I'm still on 4, which is quite good--but yours is the first negative review I've seen on episode 6, the others were overwhelmingly positive. I can't wait to watch it. I agree the American driver thing needs to be redone, I could go either way on killing the celebrities, but all in all, they're doing well and won't be going anywhere soon.
Just got caught up on the last three episodes. 4 was a yawn fest to me, 5 was much better (the GT3 RS review was really good), 6 was my favorite so far. Still hate all of the in-studio segments and the "American". The Eboladrome is fun for single car timed laps, but it would be nice if it was wider for head-to-head track comparisons (would have loved to see them run the Ford siblings against each other). It may be the half the pitcher of margaritas and the 3 10%+ beers I drank speaking, but the 2 part Namibia special was great! Classic 3 buffoon holiday special. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just found this thread... It is getting much better and much more like “Classic” Top Gear. However this is now the rumor mill that Clarkson is doing “Who wants to be a Millionaire” and Amazon is going to shut it down after season 3. I find it unlikely.. but its out there. https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/grand-tour-axed-after-jeremy-12167607
I binge watched most of the last series and while each episode seemed to be more and more the old TG, that was it's problem too. The last one was the final straw, it was absolutely boring...... Too bad too, as I always liked the chemistry between the guys......I won't watch it any more.
