Good question - Why 9
Now that is worth a few words.
My answer is the 1911 has not matured much, unless you look at a STI race 2011.
My opinion, I like the function and reliability of the 1911 in 45 or 9, but I do not like the complexity of field stripping and cleaning. My old WWII Colt was a handful, I traded it off for body work on my vintage race Alfa, now I regret.
For the 1911 to work well, it has to tuned, not a lighter trigger but tuned so it functions 100%, nothing worse that a jam when you are in a gun fight or shooting competition.
Anyway, why 9, ammo is cheap, plentiful and lots of new units are being made, some good, some not so good.
The big thing to me is that the guys pushing weapons at the stores are not knowledgeable, unless you get lucky and find the old codger who has shot a few.
Given that a few gov agencies had adopted 9 and few other 40, you get mixed signals.
I imagine the guys who pulled active duty in the past 20 years are more up to date than me, we were carrying revolvers Colt 38 as our weapons in my days since it was lighter when you had all your camera gear to carry, only to be used as a last resort.
I have been looking at a 40, a couple I like but no real need for a 40 other than I collect.
Now what I really want and have absolutely no need for at this time is a 1911 in 38 Super set up as a target race unit. I get hard thinking about that.
Of course, those who have followed this thread know that I like my 22LR units, so what do I know.
Take care, just a long ramble by Don-

Nice old Derringer, .41 rimfire is a bit hard to find. NLA or gold, your choice!
Being a few months short of 70, I don't even want to think about teaching any of my kids how to shoot. My daughter is pretty proficient, actually puts them on the bulls eye at 30 with a Glock 40. Her husband sent her to class then gave a few lessons but she learned most from buddy of her husbands, a SFC Special Forces operator who is the unit instructor. I take hints from her and my son in law, he knows his stuff but does not put it out there for everyone to see.
His Dad is 80, shots better than us younger ones, he can put a 1 inch group at 75 feet with his S&W 357mag. Hell I can't see the inner ring at 75 feet without a scope on a dark range.
I will continue to shoot 9 and carry what I feel most proficient with each day. Always carry a backup so after I roll thru 3 fifteen round mags of 9mm, I have more to shoot, if necessary. I always have two spares whether it is the Beretta Storm or the CZ 75.
I think I found an LCR 22 mag., just need to think if I really want a revolver with no external hammer. Sure wish the made a LCRx in 22 mag.-

Hmm. The LCRX is new to me. While I was looking at it on the Ruger website I noticed that the LCR is now available chambered for the .327 FED MAG. If that had been available at the time I would have bought it instead of my LCR .357 MAG. Lot easier to control in the short barreled format and still has some impressive downrange ballistic stats. You can get the LCR in 22 MAG, but if you've just got to have an exposed hammer you'll probably have to wait a year or so. I think it took a couple of years for them to progress from the LCR .38 to the rimfire version.

N2MINI MINI of the Month
Old81, let us know how it works and which ammo you are using. Been thinking of getting one of those for myself to be able to shoot much cheaper then my 45. BUT it has got to work better then my wife's Sig mosquito which I have tried all kinds of ammo and none work more then 85% of the time. CCI MM work the best of course but it is sad that it won't shoot anything else and even it is not perfect.

The Victory is a little new for aftermarket barrels as far as I know. I do know you can get a Tactical Solutions barrel for your BM that will improve the balance for strong hand sharpshooting. What really makes mine more comfortable and point better is the grip adaptors that allow me to use 1911 grips on it. I need a better red dot for mine though. I have an Aimpoint on my .17 HMR Taurus Tracker I might try.
Check out Tac Sol, they make some nice stuff for the BM.

VQ makes some good stuff. They are the "Pro's from Dover" in the Ruger 10/22 arena. Not cheap for sure, but from everything I've read and seen, excellent quality products.
I may have to look into one of those Victory's. I want another .22 plinker, but don't want another Ruger. They're just too big of a PITA to tear down. Look forward to see what you end up doing with your S&W.-

Took a big group over to the range Saturday. A number of first time shooters are now members of the "I like shooting" club. One guy from India, were guns aren't legal, said it was "Assume". Now to become a citizen so he can buy one.

No PPK or PPQ in my collection, that is a thought. Hummm.
Was out shopping last week at Sportsmans Warehouse, was not sure what I might find, but decided to pick up a new compact for casual usage and a little bit of range time, most of the time it will be in the MINI while I am on the road.
Smith and Wesson M&P 40 Compact M2.0 with the 4 inch barrel. Have not had it long enough to go to the range so range report will be later, I suspect recoil might become an issue with this unit, I passed on the on the 40 with the 4.25 inch barrel, wanted something that was a bit more daily carry.
Let's see if I can upload a direct picture.

OK, so now I've decided I'm not going to keep my unfired DPMS AR15. It's up for sale and I'm looking for a nicely kept Mini 14. Something is drawing me in that direction... Whats in a name anyhow?!
If anyone is in the know as to where I can find one for a great price, please drop me a note.-
