Went to the range today, the Ruger GP100 shoots very nice, the 357 loads I had were a bit hot, the 38 specials were good for target plinking.

My shots with it were all over the target, guess I will have to relearn the proper hold for a revolver.

Had one issue, new shooter rookie thing, not doing a complete cycle of the trigger, thus I got the cylinder to hang a couple of times. Got it worked out.

All I can say is fun to shoot, very different shooting 5 or 6, reload, shoot again.

I did bring the Beretta 9mm along, just for the exercise. The PX4 Storm compact is very accurate when shooting at about 15-21 feet with my old eyes.

    :)

Btw, I like a big gunship.

Spent some more quality time with the Ruger GP 357 Mag. this afternoon.

Trying to bring my meager skills to be consistent. Shooting 158 grain 38 Spec for my range rounds, I have found the Magtech 158 grain to be a good range round and not excessively expensive for a box of 50.

A teaser shot, I did pop off a few Federal 357 rounds today, just to compare, these are pretty good rounds too.

The Magtech 38 spec. is the smaller. :) :) of the two!

These target picture can be found in the album, I had one of the range officers shoot 6 rounds for grins, he put them in the center and top of center at 25 feet, so the GP is right on.

Was over at the range yesterday, drove the Countryman which was good.

Shooting the Ruger GP MC and little Colt, about my average day. Had an issue with the Ruger shooting some reloads from a guy out of Laramie. The cylinder would freeze up and not rotate, really jammed. It appeared the 357 rounds would not seat against the cylinder and not sit flush causing the jam and no rotation.

Had the resident RO (30 year Fed. Marshal) assist, it took a hard smack to release it.

Anyone had this issue with their Ruger, Smith or other revolver? What ammo are you guys buying for target usage?

    Do you trust gunshow reloaders?

    Curious is all. Thanks, Don

So, those who shoot 357, what is your favorite ammo? Target? If you pack for self defense what are you using?

This is aimed at a 357 revolver, but on the self defense/carry portion this could be what do you load for your favorite carry gun?

    :)

Nice! Talking guns and shooting is OK, it is a sport, just like baseball or football.

It is all about enjoying a few holes in a target or perhaps the sound of lead on steel. :)

    6.5 Grendel, beefy! :)

Welcome, share what you have in the safe.

An interesting gun "Safety" video from the Brady Bunch.

    https://youtu.be/v-OZOqxG39g

More info on the "facts" talked about in the video.

Woman Puts Gun in Her Mouth in New Brady Campaign Video
    by Todd Beamon
    April 4, 2015

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence has introduced a new video featuring a woman who puts a gun in her mouth as it seeks to disclose in which states guns can be purchased easily to encourage supporters to fight gun laws in those jurisdictions.

The video promotes a new Brady website named "Crimadvisor.com," The Daily Caller reports. It features a young man and woman sporting leather gear and tattoos — talking in brash urban tones akin to hip-hop.

"Before now, it's been difficult for criminals like us to know which states have loose gun laws," the woman says. "How would a criminal like me know which states permit me to carry loaded guns in their amusement parks, golf courses, or beaches?"

"I have some violent friends," the man adds. "We all wear leather jackets and scream at women — and we want to find which states we can buy and sell guns easily."

After describing California as a state where "the market is hungry, hungry for guns," the woman puts the weapon in her mouth.

Crimadvisor.com lists the nation's 10 most dangerous states — defined by the Brady Campaign as where guns can be easily obtained.

They are Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, Arkansas, Kentucky, Nevada, Maine, Mississippi, Idaho and New Mexico.

The site also lists the 10 states with the strictest gun laws: California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Hawaii, Maryland, Rhode Island, Delaware, and Illinois.

In the video, the man describes the latter states as those "where we're not so welcome. The ones that don't 'get us.' "

The pair end the video by saying: "Crimadvisor.com. Plan your perfect getaway."

In its report, however, the Daily Caller notes that the Brady Campaign's gun-ownership data is from 2007 and compares the top-10 lists with the actual numbers of gun-related deaths, based on FBI data.

With the safest states, for instance, a total of 2,953 gun deaths occurred in 2010. That compared with a total of only 539 in the most dangerous states.

The Daily Caller also noted that the Brady lists exclude Washington, D.C., with an ownership rate of 3.8 percent — and the nation's highest rate of gun deaths, at 6.5 per 100,000 residents.

That compared with Wyoming, which has a death rate of 0.9 per 100,000 residents — even though 59.7 percent of the Cowboy State's citizens own guns.

Both Washington and Wyoming have about 600,000 residents, the Daily Caller reports. The Brady Campaign is based in D.C.

    Laughable.
Illinois is on the toughest gun law list and yet they are always a top contender for gun crimes.

I finally found .380 at a reasonable price for practice. So I stocked up a little.

Anyone got any idea when the quality of the 22 ammo is going to get better. Nothing seems to cycle good in my wife's auto, course shots fine in the revolver.. Even bought some pricey 22's ( can't remember the brand off hand ) that were supposed to be the best out there currently and they are just as bad or worse then the cheaper bulk stuff I've got.. Doesn't help it any that it has a couple of knurled rings at the edge of bullet which grabs as it is being cycled into the chamber casing the jam. No fun to shoot that gun as you almost never get a clean clip to run thru it..

Hummm, 22 ammo, I stick with CCI MINI-Mag or Stinger, when I want to shoot a bunch I shoot Federal Match in the 325 count boxes. This all seems to cycle in the Browning Buck Mark fine.

Nothing cycles fine in my Chiappa 911 22, it is due to the magazines, cheap plastic carp.

Also shoot Federal blue box 500 count and Remington Golden Bullet, key is keeping your 22 auto squeaky clean. I have to presume this is a target/range pistol and not being a EDC.

Just my experience, I shoot about 200 rounds per session.

Now the 22 magnum CCI I picked up the other day was a bit expensive, I am stocking up for a future purchase 22MAG seems to be gold around here. :cryin:

    :)

Well I am getting to damn old, was going to shoot this afternoon, looked at my calendar and low and behold, I have an eye appointment at 1, crap....

This one they check everything, so after this one I get to drive home I hope after I can see. Guess it is good to get a tuneup once in awhile. :)

At least I hope they don't mess with my dominant eye for shooting. :nonod:

Finally, the Williams Fibre orange front sight makes a big difference, the little Ruger is right on.

Pushed some 115 grain through the CZ, going to put some new grips on this one and do wrist exercises, the SP-01 is an excellent automatic, this shooter a bit sloppy.

    :0

Pictures, when I get a moment, nothing stellar, just good therapy. :smile5:

Going to the shooting tomorrow. I can't decide if I want to trade my H&K USP compact for a H&K P2000. I love my USP but the P 2000 would be easer to carry in the summer.
