I was looking at a nice vented barrel but this was free. It helps having a gun smith as your son. The only thing is dads stuff isn't a high priority.

Went to my Daughters house Sunday. Everyone was at the backyard range. Grandson (8yrs) was checking the zero on his .243. Youth Day is Saturday and Sunday, so he and his stepdad get to hunt a week early. My Granddaughter was practicing with her compound bow. An enjoyable afternoon even though I didn't shoot anything myself.

Here is my project... Started life as a Ruger 10/22 carbine... however its much better now...

this is the Aklys Defense (Formerly Red Jacket Firearms) ZK-22 (Zombie Killer -22)...this was the build featured in the zombie killer episode with mel brook's son... its a full drop in conversion for the 10/22... this sucker is so smooth... uses the standard 10/22 parts but makes it into a bullpup rifle...add a simple bushnell trophy optic and good to go...

Thanks guys. I pose the question because in my area it seems they are being pushed by some of the stores. As I said a few weeks ago I went into a gun store with my 23 year old daughter,(today we are going to go get her carry permit, do some shooting and eat at the range), When we were looking at pistols one of the guys tried to convince me that a 9 was more accurate than a 40. On top of that I have a nephew that is new to guns that just got his carry permit. He has not believed a word I have told him. I took him to the range the other day to teach him some fundamentals, not fun but must be learned. He had several jams, due to limp wrist, he kept doing a clearing method that I have never seen. I stopped him and asked what he was doing he said he learned it from some expert on youtube. I told him I did not want to argue with this expert but to stop it!! I showed him proper clearing methods, he had never seen before.
Now I am no expert and I don't have a youtube channel but I thought I knew a little. I have been into IPSC shooting for a long time, I have had training, I have to requal every 6 months for a volunteer job, I don't think I am out of touch but I am getting old.
As far as my nephews clearing method I asked around, some instructors and friends, they are guys that range from FBI, ATF, police, none of them had seen that technique. One last rant about my nephew. He bought a 380 for his wife, thats fine, but its basically a very small 1911 type single action. That is not a beginners gun! I have worked them that that is a a weapon that will take dedication on the range to be able to manipulate it under stress. My daughter and her went through the carry class together. My daughter used my H&K, she scored a 95 the heist in the class. Yes I am proud. My niece almost did not qualify.

Ok so thanks for reading a long post. As has been said caliber is a personal choice and I believe you should have different sizes so you have carry options. I just was starting to think I was missing something.

I am writing this after talking to my 21 yearly son last night till 2AM. He told me several times he knows more than me now because what he has learned in college. We just did not know what we know now when I was his age. His professors are all right and have no motives but finding the truth.

Me I am just a close minded old nitwit that does not have the ability to understand science. :frown2::lol:

Here is the first snapshot, I still plan on trying it out on Monday at the range, it has been a bit since I was over to plink. Well made little unit.

Our range has organized a 22LR competition for February, might have to try it out, a Sunday night thing for a few weekends.

Between spending my hard earned cash on fine alcohol, automobiles and firearms, I can't believe there's anything left over for food and travel, let alone scrapbooking.

Shot the Cowtown Classic this last weekend and won the entire Carry Optics division. I am definitely getting better. Hopefully I will do even better at Area 4 in September.

Shot a couple matches this weekend. Got footage of the USPSA match with Alpha Mike just outside San Antonio. I took first in my division (Carry Optics).

DSC05200.JPG Not guns...but knives and that's close. I am selling all my shop tools and someone who is a Randall knife collector wants to be a goldsmith. Heres what I ended up with. All the knives have the Randall sheaths.

    This is a great idea.
I just visited the NRA museum Friday. I'll post some picks when I get home. They had my High Standard 22 'space gun' in the precision shooting display. I started shooting it when I was 6 and it still my favorite gun to shoot.
