I'm retired after working 21 years as a LEO. Recently stopped by a local LEO, explained to him I was carrying a weapon. After giving him proper ID and CPL. He asked where was the firearm, I explain to him I was carrying a .45 cal 1911 on my right hip, then told him I had .40 Glock in the glove box. By now I had his attention, I also told him I had an 12ga rem 1100 in the back behind the seat. Now this young LEO looks at me and says what the hell are you afraid of sir. My response to him was nothing at all!! Remember Rule #1 GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED!!!
We are going to take a tactical weapons training program in mid February. The session will be presented by a certified arms instructor, and his staff, at his ranch in a rural part of the neighboring county. The six of us will spend the weekend learning some new skills and enjoying some great BBQ. Hell, I'm betting the guy will even sell a couple of guns too.
Has anyone seen the new Ruger GP100 10shot 22LR wheel gun in a retail store near you. Ruger sends my Christmas updates to one of my alternate emails, I may be looking soon. Don
On Christmas Day My Daughter ran through a hundred round box of .380 in the new G42 that Santa brought her.
Another 100 and it will be all broke in and ready, assuming it is a carry unit, what is the plan for her!
You mean she bought and you wrapped. Very difficult giving guns as presents anymore with all the correct paperwork needing to be filled out. Back in the late '80s we had an NRA Christmas. My dad, mom, wife and myself all got new firearms for presents.
No. I bought, wrapped and gave it to her. It's still legal in VA to buy a firearm as a present as long as it's not illegal for them to own a firearm. And, as long as they don't pass that asinine "universal background check" I'll continue to be able to do so.
Interesting so giving as a gift doesn't mean the same thing as buying for someone else. Good to know.
"Straw buying" or a "straw purchase": A straw purchase occurs when the actual buyer of a firearm is unable to pass the required federal background check, or does not want his or her full name associated with the purchase, and has someone else who can pass the required background check purchase the firearm for him or her.
Not sure on the "present" thing in NC as with most states we have to have a permit to buy a new hand gun but can buy/sell a used one from individuals without a permit. So in affect I could buy a gun and just give it away as you did if I don't mind my name being tied to it..
Didn't realize you had to have a permit to purchase a handgun in NC. I'm afraid you're mistaken about "most" states requiring a permit to purchase a handgun, although of the states that do, NC is one of the better ones since the permit is good for 5 years. Gun Laws permits statistics - states compared - StateMaster Man, I wish this rain would stop. I got two 100 round boxes of 9mm for Christmas and I want to run them through my G43 to finish breaking it in. I'm gonna shoot at least 50 rounds in low light or semi darkness to evaluate the effectiveness of my TruGlo TFO sights.
I had no idea that most states actually DON"T require a permit to purchase a hand gun. See you can teach old dogs new tricks. For whatever reason in NC we don't need a permit to buy a Shotgun or Rifle just a hand gun.. Thanks,
So, I have to ask.... For the Tennessee folks who are shooters! Can an out of state person buy a handgun, rifle, etc. in the State of Tennessee or is it purchase then have it sent to an FFL in the State you reside? Curious as I really want to go to Buds up in Sevierville, TN, it appears to be a top of the line store and range. Thanks... Don
Bud's Guns is a nice place! Its like an overstock store for firearms! Back in '04 I know around Ft. Campbell you had to have either a TN or KY drivers license.
For the most part the only way to buy out of state is having it sent to an FFL. There is going to be a new cable channel next year that will be like QVC for guns. Our local store is looking to be the FFL transfer agent for the area.
