My favorite .308 is my MAS 49/56. Originally 7.5 mm a number of them brought here were re-chambered to .308. I mine at a local show with 2 mags for $300. Some of the re-chambering jobs were pretty bad mine was well done. The second one I picked up wasn't very good and it took a little work to get it right. I sold it to a friend and made a $100 They are a blast to shoot and draw a little attention at the range.
Brought my new Sig M11-A1 home tonight. Hopefully I can get out to the range in the next couple of weeks now.
the M11 is nice... a better gun than the M9... but in typical Sig fashion...way to expensive for what it is
It is expensive, but it was on clearance at Cabelas for 750. Thought that was a little more reasonable. Would never have paid the 1k most places have on it.
Don't know... In 2014 there was a group that went to a skeet range, but don't know about a rifle/pistol range. If you find out there is, I might bring some toys.
I've never fired an M9. They hadn't been adopted yet when I retired. I qualified with and when needed I carried the S&W K-38 Combat Masterpiece. Carried a 1911 on occasion. I do however own a M9, but it's never been fired. I found it at a gun shop in '07 or '08 for a price I couldn't pass up. It's an USAF Commemorative version. They also had the other services, but by the time I decided to pick up a couple more they were sold out. It's one of my few "safe queens".
I just made up my mind to buy a new M&P Shield 9mm yesterday. 10 days and it's in the bag. The Sig P238 is next.
This is an honest question, I am not questioning anyone's choice of weapon, what you can hit with is what you buy. What is the deal with the 9 becoming so popular agen? When I went from a 45 to a 40 I felt like I was compromising. Now I am thinking about a 10m. And though my carry gun is a H&k USP Compact in 40, I will always be a 1911 die hard. When I go to gun stores they seem to push you to 9s. Is this so when the blue helmets come marching in they will have interchangeable amo we can us? I'm not trying to be political I'm trying to keep this to fun stuff. I just feel out of touch.
Good question - Why 9 Now that is worth a few words. My answer is the 1911 has not matured much, unless you look at a STI race 2011. My opinion, I like the function and reliability of the 1911 in 45 or 9, but I do not like the complexity of field stripping and cleaning. My old WWII Colt was a handful, I traded it off for body work on my vintage race Alfa, now I regret. For the 1911 to work well, it has to tuned, not a lighter trigger but tuned so it functions 100%, nothing worse that a jam when you are in a gun fight or shooting competition. Anyway, why 9, ammo is cheap, plentiful and lots of new units are being made, some good, some not so good. The big thing to me is that the guys pushing weapons at the stores are not knowledgeable, unless you get lucky and find the old codger who has shot a few. Given that a few gov agencies had adopted 9 and few other 40, you get mixed signals. I imagine the guys who pulled active duty in the past 20 years are more up to date than me, we were carrying revolvers Colt 38 as our weapons in my days since it was lighter when you had all your camera gear to carry, only to be used as a last resort. I have been looking at a 40, a couple I like but no real need for a 40 other than I collect. Now what I really want and have absolutely no need for at this time is a 1911 in 38 Super set up as a target race unit. I get hard thinking about that. Of course, those who have followed this thread know that I like my 22LR units, so what do I know. Take care, just a long ramble by Don
I love my 1911. It's nothing fancy, just a Rock Island Tactical in 45, but it is a joy to shoot. It makes the extra you pay for the rounds worth it.
