First 10 Well, it shoots well, first 10 at 30 feet, iron sights, two hand hold. Sights are fiber front and rear, nice sights. Shot the first 10, CCI Stinger, second 10 Federal match, magazines need to break in a bit and need more rounds. By the time I finished up with about 120 rounds fired it was shooting well. Likes Stinger and CCI MINI MAG best of all, will shoot Fed. Match 22LR OK, but for some reason the mags did not feed on a couple of rounds. Bottom line, will make a good BullsEye pistol for the up and coming, but I may shoot my Buckmark until I get this one broke in some more. The Buckmark fires anything, I do mean anything. Also, it has my red-dot scope for my old eyes. Couple of todays pictures. First 10 Stinger at 30. Last target of session shooting at 50 feet. The bottom small shots were with my 9mm Beretta Storm at 5 yards, having some issues with it shooting point of aim up and right it is on the bullseye, see the one on the right. Fixed sights, not adjustable except hammer and drift, time to fix that. It is the library gun, so I know it is fine at 12 feet. Don I will keep you informed about the S&W Victory, thinking the carbon fiber match barrel with a nice mini red-dot, but I need to get my buddy to CNC me a rail out of good metal using the one with the pistol as a pattern. We shall see.
Continues to shoot well. me not so much at 50 feet with iron sights. :eek6: That will be the 22LR shoot coming up at the range, a little bit of a challenge for me. Shoot one handed (strong hand), 50 feet for 3 times sessions of 10 shots. Today I tried some differed 22LR in the SW Victory. Shoot all well, one stove pipe on feed 2nd round shooting CCI Standard with Lead Round nose. Exceptional with CCI MINI-MAG 36gr. HP 1260 FPS, Federal Blue Box 36gr HP 1260 FPS, CCI Stinger, and Remington Golden Bullet plated round nose rated at 1255 FPS. So these I will shoot in the competition in either the Victory or the Buckmark with scope. Need to upgrade the victory a bit before I get comfortable shooting it all the time for comp. Reduce the barrel weight and mount up the scope. Btw, I was on the target all shots even out to 60 feet, but it was shooting into the dark with the iron sights. Don
If it'll shoot the Remingtons, it'll shoot anything. The Mini Mag is pretty much my go to round in any rimfire. My BuckMark likes Lapua Pistol Kings when I can find them. The Victory is a little new for aftermarket barrels as far as I know. I do know you can get a Tactical Solutions barrel for your BM that will improve the balance for strong hand sharpshooting. What really makes mine more comfortable and point better is the grip adaptors that allow me to use 1911 grips on it. I need a better red dot for mine though. I have an Aimpoint on my .17 HMR Taurus Tracker I might try. Check out Tac Sol, they make some nice stuff for the BM. My BM with Tac Sol barrel.
Nice TACSOL, I have the rail and flash-hider, works nicely. Never did get a fluted barrel. Smith must have been working in advance with a company in Iowa for the SW22 www.volquartsen.com (I hope I typed that right). Two barrels and maybe a machine aluminum rail (not sure on the rail). Barrels are lighter and match grade, on is a carbon fiber unit, price is high for the fluted unit, but I may look it over.
VQ makes some good stuff. They are the "Pro's from Dover" in the Ruger 10/22 arena. Not cheap for sure, but from everything I've read and seen, excellent quality products. I may have to look into one of those Victory's. I want another .22 plinker, but don't want another Ruger. They're just too big of a PITA to tear down. Look forward to see what you end up doing with your S&W.
Finally got a chance to go to the range with my Ruger American Pistol. The only thing I have to compare it to is a Browning High Power. The kick is more strait back and slightly more. I assume that is to be expected. The barrel is lower in your hand and the gun weighs less than a all steel gun. I really like the sites. I am going to change the sites on my Ruger 22 heavy barrel target pistol. I am not good with a pistol. I can shoot in the black at 25 yards on 25 yard targets with my 22, but not consistently with a 9 MM. With the new Ruger I am consistently low and left. That is better than with the High Power. I do not shoot much and practice is everything. I should probably take some lessons. Overall I am more consistent with the new Ruger American than the High Power and I should improve as I shoot more. I really like the way the Ruger feels in my hand. I always liked the High Power, but I like the Ruger better. I haven't changed the thickness of the grip yet, but I think I am going to try the larger one. I have big hands and the different recoil surprised me. It might change my grip so I do not feel I am holding the gun so tight.
Ruger does make the Ruger American in 45 ACP, but my pistol is 9 MM. Thank you for the advice. I need a good teacher.
Took a big group over to the range Saturday. A number of first time shooters are now members of the "I like shooting" club. One guy from India, were guns aren't legal, said it was "Assume". Now to become a citizen so he can buy one.
As old81 said recoil anticipation. Here is what has helped me. First slow way down. Concentrate on the front sight. Keep them on target and squeeze the trigger slow enough that when the gun goes off its a bit of a surprise. Next buy some snap caps. Put one snap cap in hand with enough bulits to top off your magazine. Mix them up, look away and top off your mag, this way you don't know where your snap cap is. Now shoot. When you get to the snap cap it will show you what your doing wrong, also you get to practices a clearing action. Remember when you get to the snap cap do your clearing action and finish the mag. This drill has two purposes show you your anticipation and how to do a clearing action efficiently in competition/fight. Don't try to go fast speed will come as you practice. Also for all you shooters out there I just read a great book, Practical Shooting, Beyond the Fundamentals by Brian Enos. Think of it as the zen of shooting. I really enjoyed it.
^^^ +1 ^^^ Although an oxymoron, it's always good to remember "Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast". Also if you can get your hands on Elmer Keith's "Hell, I was There!", Bill Jordan's "No second place winner", or anything by Clint Smith you'll be entertained as well as learning a thing or two.
Between spending my hard earned cash on fine alcohol, automobiles and firearms, I can't believe there's anything left over for food and travel, let alone scrapbooking.
Did my first practice session this afternoon for the 22LR Bullseye Competion starting Sunday. Only think I will say is 'wobble'! 50 feet 3 sessions 30 rounds. I will hope that I am somewhere in the middle of the group when all the counting is done on Sunday night. I did order a new Hi-Lux Red Dot for the Victory, my plan is to use the SW as my backup gun if the Browning Buckmark breaks (not likely), the Victory is heavier that the Browning, but I think it shoots a bit better with the 6 inch barrel. I will post a picture or two after Sunday's gathering in the evening. I think we have 40 shooters, it could be a long night. Don
All told, 24 shooters for this evening's shoot. I am humbled. Need lots of single handed shooting practice, plus a lot more arm strength. At least I was not the worst, but I can improve. Don
Well, the Ruger P238 Valentine's gift was a complete hit. (No pun intended) Headed to the range on Tuesday. I know she'll outshoot me.
Did you get an LCR in 22mag. or the SP101 in 22mag? Let us know how that one shoots, the Sig should shoot fine! Brain cells, you can never have enough guns. Don
Ok so here's what just happened... I met the guy to make the 22 Mag revolver purchase. Nice guy, but I had a kinda uneasy feeling when we met outside my local favorite FFL. So, I politely told him I had changed my mind and we mutually agreed we would part ways. Overall a very tough but smart decision I believe. In the mean time, yesterday, my 9mm M&P Shield purchase finally came to fruition. I got the firearm for a very nice savings and applied that savings towards the acquisition of a very nicely kept Ruger 10/22 with Bushnell scope. Just waiting for the 10 days to pass... No shooting today, as we focused on getting my Son ready to head off to Primm for his first race of the season. Maybe this weekend.
