Love that High Standard! Beautiful pistol! They made some beautiful pistols. I had three HS target pistols, but none as nice as your Citation. Alas, back in the late eighties right after retiring from the USAF, being a single parent, I got strapped for cash to feed the critters and had to part with some of my pistols. Had to sell my High Standards and my Browning Medalist. I keep saying I'll at least replace the Browning, but the prices just keep going up. Maybe after I finish modding the new Mini I'll invest in a couple more far-arms. The only downside of retirement is shortage of disposable cash for two expensive hobbies. Sorta kinda have to do one at a time. :nonod:
I'm gonna meet a guy at the range tomorrow in the interest of picking up a Browning 1911-22 compact. Anyone have any info on this gun? Read lots of good stuff about it on the net...
I have 2 Hi Standards. One is a '59 "Military". It's a more traditional looking gun. Then the Citation. It's a competition gun with adjustable weights, compensator, adjust trigger, and adjustable striker. The barrel can be quick changed, if I had another one. My dad got both of them used in the '60 and I learned to shoot with the Citation. It is in my will to not be sold and handed down for generations to learn to shoot. It is my favorite gun.
Ok, so I shot the 1911-22 at the range this afternoon and decided to pop on it. BAM! What a nice accurate little shooter and it looks great too. This is gonna be a great trainer for us. Pick up in 10 days.....
Good you like it, Browning make some great pistols. I have a 1911-22 Chiappa, I really wish I had not bought it, pretty accurate, easy to shoot. Just jams, stovepipes and FTF..... My practice gun to keep up with clearing the crap before i can fire. Actually had it cleaned and adjusted by a gunsmith, not much gain, but I did not spend a lot. Would not spend 200-300 on a gun that is worth about 150. Ah well, TG for S&W Victory and Browning Buckmarks, my bullseye units.
Went to the range with a couple of friends on Monday. Did pretty good, seems I get a little more accurate every time I go. But I did find something odd. My one handed accuracy is way better than my two handed accuracy with my XD. I thought it was kinda strange.

Went to our local range yesterday in preparation for my CCW class on Sunday. My new fave is my Bersa Thunder 380cc. I love my 9mm Shield, but I'm beginning to be swayed. That thing shoots dead-on every shot. The sights kinda suck so it's a good thing it's accurate.
380 is a up and close and personal defensive unit, not shooting at 20 yards. More like 5 feet. Practice center mass at max 21 feet single handed. The 380 gets the job done!
It was dead on all day. At 7 yards I was gett'n groupings of no greater than 10 inches or less... Ran about 80 rounds through it and not a single FUBAR. Great time in a great class given by an even greater instructor. Next up, the 32 state course.
Explain the "32 state course"? Thank you.... My edc and travel carry is my Colt Mustang Pocketlite 380, the older style not the newer one. But I would consider the newer one as well as the Bersa. With that in mind I need to go to the range today or Tuesday to practice my close and personal routine.
I have the opportunity to buy a used Smith & Wesson 38 police pistol from the 1950s for $250. The finish is well worn and there is a place on the barrel that has some corrosion, but the inside of the barrel looks good. What do you all think? Is that a fair price for a functional pistol that has some finish issues?
CarlB, the price is right, if the action works smooth and the barrel does not have issues, I would pick it up for a plinker. Or you can do a modest restoration on it, if you want to bring it back as a show piece. The old Smiths were a nice usable pistol and a nice collector, not sure if they have a lot of value other than to say you own one. Don
Model 10? Unless it's in really bad shape it's worth $250. If it's in decent shape I'd offer him 2 bills to start. Just my opinion.
Thanks guys - I bought it and I am trying to figure out the age. The Barrel is marked with all the patents on one side. The other side of the barrel is marked 38 S&W Special CTG. The serial number is 11882. I believe this is the predecessor to the model 10. And this is a very early serial number. Across the back between the stocks it says Conservation Commission State of New York. above that it says No7. Does anyone know how o get the age of a S&W pistol?
Yes, the multi state permit will be issued through Utah as I was told. A friend of mine is a certified instructor here locally and will be doing the class for us. I just didn't see the point in having a carry permit that was invalid after I crossed the border east or north of me...
