Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take them. I unfortunately wasn't raised going out shooting and hunting. It's something I've picked up the last few years. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I understand. It is nice to have some success the first time out. Now, you can gradually push his limits. If he misses a lot at first, make sure he knows that everyone does, and missing is part of becoming a better shot. CD
So this is cool. Started after I left the fold. The hobby that took me away from racing is shooting. I shoot USPSA, IDPA, Steel Challenge, 3-Gun, Falling Steel (kinda like Pro-Am) and whatever other practical shooting sport I can. I am a certified NRA instructor and I have been shooting for 30 years. When I'm not competing I enjoy long range rifle, shooting weird and unusual firearms, and hunting.
Video of a stage at falling steel right after I got my Carry Optics gun set up. https://youtu.be/89nCYXY_KCc
IHMSA about 30 years ago. Nothing but the back yard range for the last decade or so. Gotta stay proficient for EDC.
Always a good plan. The nice thing is that my match gun is a G34. I carry either a G19 or G26 depending on my clothing. They are all set up the same way. So the manipulation, grip, sight picture habits I develop playing shooting games translate directly to my EDC.
Nice. I carry a G43 or a Ruger LCR .357 these days. I carried a Kimber Custom for years, but after surgeries on the left arm, I find the .45 ACP is just to hard to cycle the slide on reliably.
Didn't get video. Too busy helping out and forgot. Came in 4th overall and 1st in Carry Optics (there were only two carry optics guys.....).
Just ordered my Daughters Birthday present. Desantis Superfly holster (w/the grippy exterior) to use in the shoulder/messenger bag she always carries. A couple Pierce Grip extensions, grip plug, takedown tool, and cleaning mat. Oh yeah, and a couple boxes of .380 practice ammo. All of this for her G42. She loves that little pistola.
Bah. Screwed by the green weenie that is USPSA. I'm trying to get to M in Carry Optics (CO) before Area 4 in September. I just started shooting it in January. My local club held a classifier match (all stages are classifiers) and I shot it a day after I got my CO gun. Needless to say, I barely made C-class. I didn't shoot my CO gun much after that because I was still shooting some IDPA majors and didn't want to screw myself out of shooting iron sights well. Well, I have shot a couple more classifiers and another classifier match in the last two weeks and USPSA summarily dismissed two 85% runs because they were too high based on my previous classifiers. I submitted a protest form and was summarily ignored. Trying now to get some contact info regarding the scores at USPSA HQ. I know it will get sorted out but damn it's frustraiting.
Just found what looks like a good deal, so I went ahead and ordered it for my Grandson's Christmas present. A Gamo Whisper Air Rifle w/scope. .177 caliber and rated at 1300fps. I'm looking forward to trying it myself. He has his own .22, 410 shotgun, and .243 rifle, but this will be good for sitting on the porch and thinning the squirrel population. He started shooting my CZ .177 Air Rifle when he was 4 years old so he's already familiar with the break action rifle. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/821162/gamo-whisper-igt-break-barrel-air-rifle-177-caliber-pellet-black-synthetic-stock-blue-barrel-with-gamo-airgun-scope-4x-32mm-matte-factory-reconditioned?cm_mmc=se_service-_-shippingconf-_-shippingconf-_-ProductShippedTodayLink

Nice shooting. Thank what you could do with a good gun! I mean Glock? H&K the standard that all are judged by! Ok I'm just yanking your chain, sorry I can't help myself. I do use an H&K USP compact with the LEM trigger. But I really miss my Springfield 1911 customized by Wilson Combat. That really was some nice shooting. I need to get back to the range!
Both guns are Glocks 34s. I've tried: Tannfoglios (Stock 2 & 3) CZ SP-01 Shadow Beretta 92g SA 1911 Range Officer SA XDm 5.25 All excellent pistols. Just not for me. I'm faster and more accurate with a Glock. So, that's what I use. You gotta shoot what works for you.
