In VA you download the renewal form from the VA.gov website and turn the completed form and check for the fee in to the clerk of the court. No penalty. We don't have a requirement for a formal training class. A copy of a DD-214, approved training class, or the approved on line course is all that's required when getting permit the first time.
Concealed carry permit permits rules vary state to state. You'll need to check with yours in order to figure out the correct course of action. I have been shooting. I just haven't been getting videos. Getting ready for USPSA Area 4 Championships in less than two weeks. Lots of dryfire and an increased live fire practice. I'm not gonna go to burnout like I did last year but enough to keep my edge sharp. A reminder that effective shooting is a perishable skill. No matter what you like to shoot or why you shoot get out and practice.
Very much this! Also... in NC, it can vary county to county. As a part of the old south, it was left up to the county sheriffs to determine who gets permits and who doesn't... so someone could lay eyes on the person requesting (aka: see skin color) before approving / denying the permit. The process is legislated by the state, but a lot of how it is administrated depends on the county you are in. Find your county sheriff's website and check there.
I've renewed mine 2 or 3 times but always make sure to start the process a couple months ahead of expiration date.. has only been taking 3 to 4 weeks each time so far.. Just wondered what would happen if it did expire.. Thanks,
Virginia is a Shall issue state vs a May issue. Local sheriffs can disapprove for cause, but not just personal choice. If you don't have either approval or disapproval within 45 days, your application is good in lieu of CHP until it's resolved. We also have a preemption clause in state law that prevents localities from making laws more stringent than the state version. Cuts down on the confusion. My CHP was expired by two months before I realized it. Filled out my paperwork, paid the fee, and had my renewed license in ~2 weeks.
Been slacking at the gym and I haven't kept up my training regimen. It showed at this match. It was also between 95-98f and 80-90% humidity the whole match. That was a rough couple of days. Shooting around Houston in the middle of July is not a great plan. Lol. Here Ya go:
These shoot drills would be more “Real life” if they had people shooting back at you with paintball guns.
FYI: The concealed permit process in North Carolina is taking about 6 months. It's been a while, but I believe that there are 6 different places in NC where they send a request for mental health checks (have you been committed to a mental health facility). They wait for at least 3 of them to come back as "no" and those are taking WAY longer than before due to resource constraints (they don't hire enough staff). I filed for my renewal 3 months in advance (as soon as I was able) and my license expired for a few months. The local sheriff's department sent a "Oh... don't worry about the expiration, the police know that this is taking longer than usual and they will cut you some slack." Yeah... right.
slack is not an option. I have my carry permit, but have not been going to the local indoor range for over a year. Should reintroduce myself to some shooting this season again. With all of your active shootings in the Colorado area, not a good time for us hobby shooting folks. Take care and be safe. Don
Yeah, it gotta be a big rough in Colorado those days. I'm still going to range every other weekend here(Tx), but a lot less folks lately too. "They will cut you some slack" on words, but once something happens - you going to be the first to have 'em at your doorstep. Hate all the bureaucracy, especially when it takes longer than expected.
I hate to hear that @agranger. I don't think I would believe them ether. Sense my wife has picket up shooting we go through about 400 to 500 rounds a week. We did miss last week.
That is a lot of rounds, but about right for two. Do you get to eat all 3 meals per day with that budget for rounds? . You shooting 9mm, 380, 40cal, 223 or like me 22, 380, 38, 9, 40 and this and that, I go hight with the 22, medium with the the bigger rounds. I try to stay with the target practice ammunition, but sometimes you have to see if your pistol will handle the good stuff. Ah well, guess I need to go over next week try my 22 target stuff again, it is relaxing.
We shoot mostly 9. My wife has a couple 22 she shoots some. I shot 9 and a couple 1911’s. One is a single stack 45. My new addition is a 10mm 1911 that holds 16 rounds in the mag. It’s a horse of a gun! We both have Warrior Poet Shadow systems 9’s. Very nice gun the have good triggers and Holosun red dots. You can shoot fast with them. But I am an old guy so I am not a 9 fan. Carry it some but my main fallback is 45. The 10mm some. Ammo has come down a lot but not where it was. I mostly buy online, much cheaper. https://www.freedommunitions.com/ https://ammoseek.com/ To your question “do I get 3 meals?” One must have their priorities
I picked up a Taurus Poly Protector .357 mag last weekend, looking forward to trying it out. Not looking forward to price of the ammo though, quite a bit of difference between a 9mm and 357, well definitely break in with 38.
