While wasting time on nam awhile ago I saw some-
thing a just could not believe. Here is the title of
the thread "could a thunderstorm cause my car not
to start?" I had to get a cold one after reading that!

Ha Ha. Reminds me of the early 60's when I bought a VW bug that wouldn't start when it rained.

I dabble in NAM from time to time since they wouldn't/couldn't remove my account. I did see that thread, but didn't click on it. I love when come across a thread 'regular gas vs premium'. Really? I'm just gonna start trolling on there. SURE, run regular, it'll be fine! Make sure you bounce the her off the rev limiter 20 times a day as well.

Doesn't it say in the owners manual to not drive during thunderstorms , due to the possibility of a non-start issue?

Do you guys recall the episode of Top Gear where they stuck Richard in a car, and zapped it with simulated lightning.

I had an '84 Renault Alliance that wouldn't start in the rain.

That is unless you kept cranking it until the heat evaporated the moisture enough for it to turn over.

    Ahhhh, college.

The best threads start with "I just had Jan tune my car and now ___ does not work"

One turn signal is not working
    Radio
    One headlight
    One taillight
    Done light out
    Brake warning light came on.

    People are idiots

^^^^ That's why MINI of Baltimore had to move from the world's second largest dealer to something "somewhat more convenient for its customers."
Probably only F56 owners/would be owners buy that.

I hate nam that place is such a dump. It reminds me of "Sizzler", all corporate, sub par, and gross...

Start a thread on how to change your oil and watch how complicated those scrubs make it. Whoa...

Although it seems like something everyone should know, to a lot of people, it's not.

Sure, I would know immediately that the car needs an alignment, but I guarantee a lot of MINI owners, who love their cars, but didn't grow up working on them like I did, wouldn't know.

"Ignorance" is not the same thing as "stupidity."

To me, "stupid" is the mom driving a minivan with two kids inside, with tires that are so bald that steel cords are showing through. I have actually followed drivers like that to where they are going, and had a "chat" with them in parking lots. They will often tell me that their husband takes care of that stuff. Well, OBVIOUSLY, he doesn't take care of that stuff.

But, I digress. Bald tires on a car full of kids is a pet peeve of mine. Bald tires on ANY car is stupid, but it is especially stupid on a car full of kids.

As you were. Smoke em' if you got em'.

Yeah...stupid is not even knowing you are doing something wrong...
    Blissful ignorance.
So if somebody asks what's wrong, I can't fault them.
I might be amazed they don't know....
But am happy they are willing and trying to learn.
Many of us learn basic car repairs and maintenance stuff from a father or other realitive growing up...
But there are many who never learned the basics....either through lack of desire, or lack of opportunity.

Unfortunately I have seen MINI's come into the shop for minor reasons (while I am hanging out, or having something done) and a the car frankly should not be on the road....a pair of tires with wires sticking out from the inner edges sparking on the ground....seen it twice....know the outer half still had legal tread but....
    It's a crazy world..
Just like so many motors get blown up from lack of oil, or folks drive till the yellow gas light screams at them they need gas NOW, many people are so self-absorbed in their lives and other events, their cars are just distractions....

When I was a poor teenager, we called tires with wire sticking out of the tread, "Snow Tires!"
