Not sure how its going to look with the current blue paint, but I bet we are thinking along the same lines.
My vision involves removing all the mechanisms for the soft top too, but that is about as practical as a 3 wheeled Morgan.![]()

These T&B cable ties hold in all weather and have a metal lock.
Nothing beats T&B

Step 12 - So long, rollbar!!!
Not the new one... the old one.
The factory roll hoop assembly includes some trim that covers some otherwise exposed sheet metal. It also includes the low position pivots for the boot shelf, which holds the rear window and top when folded. The structural roll hoop has the high position pivots for the shelf, which can be used to increase boot volume at the cost of not being able to put the top down while using this.
My goal was to retain the cosmetic and functional value of this assembly, and also use it to hold a horizontal crossbar for attachment of planned canvas stuff.
So I pulled the interior trim out of the boot (again!), reinstalled the roll hoop assembly, and decided how to cut the trim to blend with the car.
Here goes...
Now re-install back on the car and figure out how to cut the aluminum.
For now I'm just going to cut them pretty much flush with the trim that I just cut. I may cut them some more later, or grind them down to fit the crossbar I ordered (T6 alloy 1.5"x.25" tubing, 36" long).
Getting ready to destroy a fairly expensive part.
Destroid!!!
This is a pretty healthy extrusion. And the toughest aluminum part I've ever cut.
And the result:
And now I have a place to hang my shelf again... no more paracord!.
For now, I just taped over the top and holes to help visualize it. Eventually these will be filled, sanded and painted... nice and pretty. For now you have to use your imagination.
More to come on this step soon...-

Another detail...
Because sometimes you just have to say What The Hell...
JCW Carbon/Alcantara brake handle to replace my old polished one with the faded Union Jack. A better match for the JCW steering wheel and the new seats.-

The last picture above is what epic failure looks like.
FYI ~ he slid off (Hellbender) facing the road to towards Fontana and went airborne and hit a tree with his passenger rear quarter panel. That spun him 180 degrees as he went over the edge and hit a tree ( 20 + feet down) head on 6 or 7 feet up with his hood scoop and slid down the tree.
He was not hurt and was only wearing OEM seatbelts and none of the airbags went off.
He did drink a whole bottle of Patr'on that night.
I ran him down to MINI in Atlanta a few days later and the guys at Helix (Eric) got the car up and running and he drove the Dragon a few times and drove the car home to PA on Saturday.Attached Files:

Rotors will hold up, but those calipers (outlaw) are going to flex big time--no center cross-member, and a long distance of thin metal in the middle until you get to the more rigid ends. if you hit the track, make sure to flip your pads every now and then to even out the taper.
I had horrible support from Outlaw, I hope your luck is better, Chad probably had an in with them, but at the end if the day I'm done with that company.-

Be cool if you can ever get to Road America or Blackhawks-I instruct for some of the groups there. Maybe not well, but I do it. The thing with instructing is I learn as much from that as I do from being instructed, both are extremely helpful. Not a whole bunch of MINIs to instruct though, wish there were more. I'm instructing an FRS driver Friday with the Milwaukee Branch of the PCA, should be fun as I've never been in one on the track:

From one Paul to another, I'd like to pick your brain about the Schroth setup you have... my biggest annoyance with my car at this point is that I can't keep my ass in the seat when cornering. Although I'm not a huge fan of a 4-point harness for street use (even with ASM straps), being able to swap to a track-ready harness in a couple of clicks sounds great, and probably better than I could do with the stock seatbelt in place.
Do you still have the custom shopping list from HSM? I'd like to take a peek and see what you bought and why :arf:-

The Schroth's 4 points work great for me, I don't use them on the street, but 5 or 6 points are better, I'm switching to them as soon as I decide wether I'm keeping this car forever or not.
And Paul--the ABS bleed--thanks for the post about enginuity stuff from a bazillion years ago, it was one of your posts that I referenced when I bought it--rather fork over for the ABS bleed myself than at at the stealer.-

I run a ton of HPDEs and NEVER failed tech with Schroths, with any group. They are street legal belts for a 2006 and below MINI, they work with the belt tensioners, there is no reason on god's green earth that you can't run in class 2 with them. Class 1 requires cage/harness and at least 5 points. You don't want to run class 1 unless you enjoy being on track with race prepped GT3s....
I'm instructing with the Milwaukee PCA tomorrow....if you're going five or six point, that's where they get strict with the proper seat, harness bar and at least a 4 point bar.-
