Yup - Romanian Diagnostic Cables Provider.
Stuff works. Note that you need a windows laptop (not a windows VM on a Mac) to run GT1/DIS.

I finally got around to reading the entire thread. Great project you have going. I'm looking forward to seeing you run it at VIR. Make sure you post your next track date. I only live about 20 minutes from there, but haven't attended any events in the last few years. Something else I need to remedy.

This sounds like personal experience. I too can't get the s/w to run on my Mac that's running a virtual Windows environment. However, mine is from a guy in England, I believe.

Which Windows machine did you get?

I had an old Win7 laptop handy. The issue is that the DIS software is UNIX-based and runs in a VM already - that's how BMW distributes it. VMware won't let you run a VM within a VM... so you need physical Windows to run it. The other stuff runs fine for me on a Windows VM on my Mac.

Well.....netbooks are kind off sorta making a come back since windows is now free to manufactures that use a screen size of less than 7.9 inches (think that is the number)....
A few $200 units with new processors have come out....very similar to Chromebooks, with a tiny ssd....been very impressed for the $230 price point on the Chromebook (running chrome os) side 8+ hr battery life, ssd, OK keyboard ,plasticy yes, but disposable......so similar hardware should be fine for your intended use.......heck could keep the software on a USB...plug it in...good to go. Just would need to copy the the software off a CD...think that is how they are still selling it...

Maybe... The installers can be finicky. And the VMs can be iffy sometimes about running on Atom CPU's etc. I personally wouldn't buy a netbook with hopes that it would work, until someone had proven it. Need a DVD drive to install from, and the full install including the DAT files for NCSexpert takes quite a few GB...

    I started a list:

    • Replace oil filter housing gasket (leaking)
    • Pull valve cover, check cam, rockers, etc (noisy)
    • Replace chain guides?
    • Check timing - apparently it's off by 1 tooth on a lot of MINIs
    • Get injectors cleaned
    • Replace heater hose assy
    • Replace transmission mount rubber (had them in a box for a while)
    • Replace belt tensioner and idler pulley and belt (annual preventative)
    • Re-seal timing cover, replace crank seals

Already did the SC and the gaskets last year.

Believe me... If I had an extra 10 large that I wanted to put in this car right now... It would get an engine...

    But not right now...

    Hey Paul:
Are your front sway bar bushings in good shape?....easy to get to now that everything is exposed, but as you know a ***** to get to otherwise. (Mine are awaiting a need to drop the subframe)...

Your brave I would never trust myself to take apart an auto. Well I could get it apart just not back together.

Nice work, you must really want to go faster with the MINI, hope those staples work for you. :)

I am not a fan of that surgery, never had it, hope I don't need it in 10.

    Take care of yourself.
