Paul, that wasn't terror - I still had beer farts from the night before. I was crop dusting North Carolina. What, you don't do that? Sh*t, my bad. Sorry about that. Seriously, having been a passenger in your car over the years, since the original BToT in '08, I think I can safely offer this opinion: the car is b*lls out amazing now. Sitting on the porch at the Dragon last year - Wellzy, Dissen, Myles, Phil & Colin - talking about this, it sounded one part pipe dream and one part entirely reasonable. Who does sh*t like that? Nobody, Paul - nobody does sh*t like this. The car is amazeballs. You really have assimilated a GP into Blimey, or vice versa. That Borg thing really did happen. And in a couple of years, when you drop in a proper engine, it'll be what BMW should have designed. Amazeballs.
Also, we should put a clothes line out in front of 620 this year, with a sign that reads, "Dry your panties here."
Last pre-Dragon mod... One of these is more "appropriate" than the other... If a GP Roadster is going to have rear speakers, they need to match the front speakers. And I prefer the way the non-HK grilles look, anyway. Done.
Made it to MOTD and back... with no problems! Flogged the car HARD for hundreds of miles (total trip was 1800 miles) and it was spectacular. Still have some things I want to do to improve it, but it's already outstanding. Highlights: Met Art and Mark2 in Hillsville, VA on Tuesday... Drove to Bristol, and ate very good sushi... Phil joined us, and we drove an epic route to Fontana on Wednesday. Phil brought me the extra key, and GP floor mats (!) that he was able to pickup from the previous owner of GP0769 in Cleveland. Art and I had a great cabin at the top of the world in Fontana... Thursday, we did the super secret Sapphire route... Wellzy fed us all like kings this week... Colin enjoyed a Fistful of Bacon... Friday, Devil's Triangle, with lunch at Calhoun's in Lenoir City... Everyone treats me and my car with the proper respect... Myles replaced an exhaust gasket, with Art and Wellzy's help. He also got a cam and tune while in Fontana. Saturday, we drove Six Gap and had great German lunch in Helen, GA. Stopped off at Brasstown Bald with Art and Mark2. Drove home today. Exceeded 3000 miles of GPness on the way home.
Was a trip to see the GPness in person. Thanks for the T-Shirt, I'll work on getting down to size so it fits.
It was a great almost-week. LOVED driving the GP Roadster solo on Hellbender - that was a treat, indeed. Damn fine car, damn fine group of friends, damn fine tradition.
Ditto, Bill. Thanks for the ride. Really enjoyed it. If you want / need info on the Highway 250 / 33 route down here near Staunton, just ask. Great area to let the throttle go.
Nice yellow tape. You forgot to mention your light night wake up. Boom x100 Oh thanks for the shirt and the GPness looks great.
Glad I finally got a chance to see it in person! Incredible work - I still say go for the tonneau cover.
^^^ My thoughts exactly! Ditch the top and all its components and it would probably be as light as my car is.
Thanks for posting the photos Paul...was really sorry I could not make it up to MOTD this year...looks like I missed some great drives, fantastic lunches, and of course Welzy's great cooking.... Hey, did you guys get involved in any bottle rocket wars with the folks down the hill from Welzy's place this year? I laugh every time I think about that episode from last year....
