Thanks. I was trying to run the VM that the s/w came with under a Parallels VM running Windows. No go. Now I'm looking for a decent not-too-expensive Windows machine since this s/w will be all I use it for.
eBay is your friend. Do an advanced search for user "diy_bmw_garage" Or just search for DIS GT1 INPA NCSexpert I can't attest to the legitimacy or support of any of the sellers except the one I named above. And, of course, this is all hypothetical. I would never encourage the use of any BMW software not obtained directly from BMW for zillions of dollars.
Well.....netbooks are kind off sorta making a come back since windows is now free to manufactures that use a screen size of less than 7.9 inches (think that is the number).... A few $200 units with new processors have come out....very similar to Chromebooks, with a tiny ssd....been very impressed for the $230 price point on the Chromebook (running chrome os) side 8+ hr battery life, ssd, OK keyboard ,plasticy yes, but disposable......so similar hardware should be fine for your intended use.......heck could keep the software on a USB...plug it in...good to go. Just would need to copy the the software off a CD...think that is how they are still selling it...
Maybe... The installers can be finicky. And the VMs can be iffy sometimes about running on Atom CPU's etc. I personally wouldn't buy a netbook with hopes that it would work, until someone had proven it. Need a DVD drive to install from, and the full install including the DAT files for NCSexpert takes quite a few GB...
$40.00 I have one and it looks great. LG 8x External DoubleLayer DVD±RWCDRW Drive SP60NB50 - Best Buy dvd drive&cp=1&lp=2
I'm a Mac person, I bought a laptop refurbed for 90 bucks, runs XP, has a DVD drive, has worked great. The screen resolution is horrible, I think it has like 8 pixels, but it's good enough.
Sooooo.... replaced the faulty solenoid in my rebuilt transmission valve body yesterday. That resolved one specific issue with the transmission, but a test drive confirmed that I've got bigger problems. Looks like I've done some combination of spinning the K-2 clutch seal sleeve (common problem), and burning through some clutches (probably the torque converter lockup clutch, and perhaps others). So transmission rebuild is in my near future. Here's the transmission service manual. I have a hardcopy on the way. TF60-SN, 09G, 09M.pdf Here's a good exploded view: http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/mm5/graphics/Catalog-pdf/AWTF60SN.pdf Here's the Sonnax replacement K-2 clutch sleeve for the one that spins - available from multiple sources: K-2 Clutch Seal Ring Sleeve Kit - 15759-01K - Sonnax Here's a supplier for the parts (there are others): VW 09M, 09G, Aisin TF60SN Transmission Parts Volkswagon / Audi I'm probably going to replace the torque converter and rebuild ALL the clutches while I have the thing apart, plus all the seals and such that you have to replace when you do the rebuild. After all that, I should, for practical purposes, have a better-than-new transmission. Bummer that you have to pull the engine to get the transmission out. That should be fun. At least I can install the new heater hose assembly I bought a couple of years ago and didn't install. Anyone have any suggestions for other things to do while I have the engine out? All suggestions are welcome, including "swap to a manual transmission"... I'll just ignore those.
I started a list: Replace oil filter housing gasket (leaking) Pull valve cover, check cam, rockers, etc (noisy) Replace chain guides? Check timing - apparently it's off by 1 tooth on a lot of MINIs Get injectors cleaned Replace heater hose assy Replace transmission mount rubber (had them in a box for a while) Replace belt tensioner and idler pulley and belt (annual preventative) Re-seal timing cover, replace crank seals
Cleanliness is of utmost importance (the trans bits and bobs, not you).... Oh... And don't end up with any extra parts at the end, it's kinda like rebuilding a watch.... And I'll leave this right here....
Supercharger oil replacement, check that damn green gasket (supercharger intake) that likes to leak...actually scratch all of this, install a Roterx, or better yet 1.8 stroker...I mean if the engine is already gonna be out!
Already did the SC and the gaskets last year. Believe me... If I had an extra 10 large that I wanted to put in this car right now... It would get an engine... But not right now...
So, this happened. Took all weekend, but the engine is out and the garage is usable as a garage again, mostly. FWIW, getting the engine out on an MCSA is a b!tch. The whole assembly is a good bit fatter than with the manual, and the transmission is much fatter than the manual. And comes with it's own assortment of extra water hoses, vacuum lines, and wiring harness that the manual doesn't have. No, Dick, I'm not polishing anything while it's out. But I will do some pretty major engine maintenance while I have it apart. Oh yeah, and I discovered the miracle of wheel dollies. Blimey's carcass will be living on a set for a while.
Wow, nice pic, I am impressed! I'd be upgrading/replacing every damned thing I could think of. But I doubt I'd have the stomach to take all that on; my MINI I'm afraid would wind up like Humpty Dumpty. And I couldn't live with that for a name for my car...
Hey Paul: Are your front sway bar bushings in good shape?....easy to get to now that everything is exposed, but as you know a ***** to get to otherwise. (Mine are awaiting a need to drop the subframe)...
