Now who can say they knew of this, just a decade or so before most baby boomers birth.

Sure wasn't covered in history class at my school.

Actually I do know a lot about that Norm. One of the, many, reasons I think General Douglas MacArthur was a complete ass.

Catch all three, some don't think this kind of stuff could happen here, police, soldiers and government turning on veterans. Add a little propaganda from the media and bingo we have a public enemy. Now it seems the occupy movement was embraced by the current administration, but I don't really care about that.
I am pissed because it was determined before I was born that this would not be taught in American history in public schools and still isn't.

    Norm03s, Justa Jim and ScottinBend,

I can't say thanks enough for posting this on MA! Having spent over 20 years in the Army, this was not discussed prior to enlisting, or during my time served. It sure places a different focus on things we may have received from the military and our government.

If you think about it Brett, it happened a number of times in one form or another. Traditionally, when there is time of crisis, the call goes out and troops are promised a lot, because they are needed. Then it is over and all the promises start to be broken. Happened after WWII, when returning vets could not get jobs. The GI bill for NAM vets was great, then it vanished before many could even use it. Then the old "free medical for life" if you retire has turned into TRICARE. :(

Exactly why when writing the Constitution our forefathers put in checks and measures in an attempt to stop Government from becoming out of control.

A Government with too much power over it's citizens will soon forget that it is "Government for the people, by the people."

In a so called attempt to cut spending, our Government now wants to cut pay and benefits to the very soldiers who protect our Liberty, whilst they lavish themselves with huge expense accounts, great salaries, retirements and lifetime healthcare benefits that not only we the people don't have, but our Veterans don't either....

And for many, the answer is to give this very Government more power and control? Ridiculous.:screwy:

Were you aware that the original Constitution did NOT allow for a standing Army in time of peace, only a Navy? Of course there wasn't a Air Force back then. :D

The Army would be made of militia (reserves if you will), maintained by each state and call up for federal duty only when needed.

Aren't History lessons are the greatest thing? History holds such a high level of importance in our society for so many obvious reasons. Well, obvious that is to most..... just not so much to some in relatively critical positions within our government.

    Great stuff.

So, I guess you have noticed that we keep making the same mistakes over and over. They keep hoping that the "last war", was the "LAST" war, but it never is. :nonod:

Well unfortunately war is inevitable :frown5: But stupid government shouldn't be :mad5: Seems they don't have any problem with extending unemployment forever though? That is not a slam against anyone on unemployment, it is a slam against our leaders not knowing what the heck they are doing!

I have seen this documentary before and it is very disheartening. As far as this country has come you would think that this could/would never happen again.

This was one of the sales pitches that got me. The recruiters are great salesmen, they have to be. The longer you stay though, the more you lose when it comes to promises made.

Education in the way of the GI Bill was a big sell for the vets of Iraq and Afghanistan also. Once things started calming down and and it came time to collect the road blocks started popping up and officals started backstepping. There was nothing in writting and the rules were constantly changing. I believe prerequisites and guide lines are in writing/effect now, but, hate to say it, this is the norm.

Ours was in writing. Everything spelled out nice and neat. You could even get vocational training in any field of your choice, even flying lessons. If you wanted to take the test for any government job, you could, even if the field was closed.

BUT, then they added "you must complete this training by......" and the time limit kept getting shorter and shorter and then it was gone.

very well said, very well said!! I am tired of our military men, women and their families getting screwed but that is what happens when you are the 1%!
I also have a hard time with the flag not being at half mast for our military when they die but , nothing against the victims, our pres can order the flag at half mast for civilians killed by an idiot. Were is the respect for our military men, women and their families?

....or a moment of silence in Congress for Micheal Jackson when he basically killed himself.:screwy:

When was the last time Congress had a moment of silence for a brave soldier who laid down their lives defending the Liberty that allows those very Representatives their high place?

I can not agree with you more, but look back through history, all the way to the War of Independence. Soldiers have always been a disposable commodity. Cheer them when you need them, but from a distance, because they make a lot of folks nervous, if they actually have to talk to one and then toss them away until the next time. Most people think soldiers are a bit different and a little strange. Wow, I wounder why that might be?

LOL, it definitely takes a diffrent mentality to be in the military, especially longer than one contract!
