Sad to see that, but this isn't the first or the last car that will happen to. Someone tried to pull a fast one & got caught. Doing that you take on an amount of risk. Sometimes it works & sometimes it doesn't. Having a dog & pony show to show how we crush cars is just a waste of money.
Way back in the dark ages I knew a couple of guys who had rally cars that were here on some sort of short term permit. At the end of that permit they had to have those cars shipped out of the country or surrendered for scrapping.-

On one hand, I get it. There's always a threat that these cars are stolen and shipped overseas. But really, Homeland Security must have something more pressing to attend to...

They said the 1990 had an airbag light...bet they wrecked it cause it had a Takinkinta Mexican made airbag that could explode and kill you!!! Homeland security, making the world safe for us all!!
Now don't pay attention to those folks wading across the RIO-GRANDE RIVER...carrying killo blocks of...er..."product " to sell...And having various contagious diseases....
Your government will make the world safe by destroying unapproved consumer products!!-

They got all dressed up in their overcoats.... Moved the official podium with the official seal out to the wreckers lot.... And stood in the snowy blistery weather with this look on face....
Mucher chuckles were overheard at the crushing....
-
I hope my tax dollars bought her that nice coat.
-
So they spent TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars to Have a car crushing "event" ...
A sure a "rev-vin" could be a stolen car....but where is the evidence of a person hurt by the actions?
None...just beaurocrats justifying their existence....just remember, big brother says "YOU MUST OBEY!!"....
So the only person hurt was likely the one who did not follows the government rules...go figure. -

There are two glaring faults with their "logic", first - an '89 model car which is legal in a few months is somehow safer than a 2000 even with an airbag light on?
On what planet would this be true?
Second - emissions. Again, the 89 is somehow better than a 2000 with fuel injection and a cat?
Stolen.....well, difficult to prove either way, but how can they assume the wrong without proof?
The guy who bought this probably had absolutely no knowledge about it being a revin, he just thought he was buying a cute little car....but he's the only one to suffer a financial loss.
Wrong on all counts, why couldn't they at least offer him the option of removing the car from the states - he could have sold it in Canada next month for example.
I don't have a problem with Customs doing it's job - the law is the law after all, but crushing the car is such a waste. -
We might not have figured out how to rid the world of the isis threat, but at least we're making progress on those altered VIN Mini's, one of the greatest threats to humanity this world has ever seen.
Rumor has it Homeland Security is tackling the threat of suspicious Pez dispensers next.
