What zoning codes really are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The zoning code just allows the people with the most grease to get their way. Grease the correct palm and you can build anything you want.

Zoning codes are only to screw with the greasless people.

Fortunately in OR this is not the case, we have some of the most strict zoning laws in the country. Can make it a bit hard to build in some cases, but it sure is nice to know that this kind of crap can't get done.

That is plain and simple a travesty of wealth.......

That's a shame. I grew up in Kamloops and love the Okanagan. Kelowna has already been ruined by development and skyrocketing real estate prices.

I remember when that happened to the sound side of Navarre Beach on Santa Rosa Island (Florida). It used to be a paradise for sunfish sailing. Now there are so many houses, you can't get to the beach, and if you could, you have to walk the boat out 100 yards to get past the piers. The last time I was there, the old beach house was surrounded by taller houses like the one in your pics. Sometimes you have to find a new favorite spot.

So I take it there is no zoning codes in effect to keep such a monstrosity from being popped right into the midst of those modest homes. That is a shame indeed.

I don't know the specifics of this house, but I tended to agree with Ronnie. Money always has a way with 're-zonning'. Sad really

Looks like a case of more money than sense. Shameful, really.

Turns out that houses in the area are only allowed to be 2 stories, unless you get a variance. Apparently the neighbors allowed the variance. Either they were cluesless (as to the actual design and implications) or secretly they're all harboring motive hoping they can sell and get big bucks one day. Or somebody got greased. I really don't know the details, but I do know that the house is a butt ugly sight in that (or any)neigborhood.

Not sure if that is just an obnoxiously big house, or possibly a place that will have a couple of condos/apartments. Either way, definitely not an improvement to the neighborhood.
