    Hello!

This is my first post, exciting!

The EML light on my '52 Cooper S keeps coming on, and every so often the engine limits itself to 2000 RPM. I then have to switch the engine off and wait a couple of minutes, then the EML light goes off, but the square-ish light above it stays on?
I saw my mechanic and he cleaned a hose in the engine, (i think something to do with the throttle) which stopped it for a while but now the light is back on!
    Help!!

Welcome, welcome. We assume you meant '02 Cooper S. How many miles on the car? Have you always owned it? Where are you located?

You're both wrong, she is a time traveler and forgot about the Temporal Prime Directive.

So did the mechanic read any codes or did he just reset the light?

    Hey!
I am a time traveler, but have since travelled back in time so you will forget all about this conversation...

Actually, it is a 2002 plate Mini Cooper S, done 71,000miles and I've owned it for about 18 months now.

He did look at the codes, he thinks it's something to do with the throttle, but is going to do some more diagnostic testing on the electronics next week.

I just wondered if this was a common problem or if anyone had any helpful suggestions!

Not going to my local dealer, too expensive and I don't think it was well looked after by them previously!

Check the connector on the throttle body

for tightness and corrosion. Throttle bodies can go bad. It's happened before. Depending on where you live, you may be able to borrow one to see if that fixes it. If you're around the SF Bay Area I have an extra one....

If your MAP sensors have never been replaced they could also cause your problems and they are notoriously hard to pin down since they will throw a variety of codes.
