Christmas is always the most fun, especially with little ones who get so excited and just count down the days.
I'd vote for Christmas!! Not "holidays"... But Christmas!! Call it what is is...some schools down in Massachusetts are now having " holiday " break, and singing rock songs for their holiday concerts....
When my son was a little one Christmas was a magical time. I loved seeing him on Christmas morning. Now that I'm an old fart & my sonny boy is a grown man Christmas has lost it's magic for me. Stefanie hold on to your little ones tight, they grow up so darned fast.
For me, Christmas and every other "Family" holiday meant a full day of listening to all the family members get into fights and storm out of the house. I really only have one good memory of Christmas, and that was one of the years I was at Ft. Campbell, 1000 miles away from my family, and with good friends and the girl I let go.
I know where you are coming from. Sounds similar to most of the family events that I go to. Perfect example was Sunday at my nephews bday party when my BIL started negatively talking about the Catholic church and his family started jumping all over him about it. Funny thing is that none of them are what I would call "active" Catholics and I got the stink eye from my wife when I mentioned it. Can't wait to get back together with them on Christmas morning.... Don't get me wrong, I really like the Christmas season and try to go out of my way to be extra friendly to the people I encounter on a day to day basis. I just don't care for the drama it brings when it comes to family .... "You spent more time with them, than us" or "We have to spend $xxx amount on their three kids, but they only spend $xx on my kid".
I just decided to sever myself from anything to do with any holiday (unless its one I made up myself)... Losing Halloween was a bit of a B*** to adjust to, but I dont miss the others at all!
MS (which needs to be eradicated from the face of the earth) took my mother from me on December 26th a few years ago. Christmas has been incredibly painful for me ever since. I'm an engineer, so anytime a major project has to be done over the holidays I usually take it on. I have found it easier to be busy and in the middle of a big job than to try to celebrate.
I like Christmas again. When I was a wee lad and my pop owned a drug/liquor/lottery/check cashing/loansharking place Christmas was a hoot. Now mind you, I was an over privileged pudgy white kid in the ghetto, Doc's son. All the regulars were always glad to see me, slip me a quarter or sometime a 50 cent piece. The local beat cops would hang out in the store. There were piles of sandwiches, cakes and stuff from the Jewish Deli. I learned to twirl a nightstick back in those days. Fond Christmas memories... Cake has been killing people world wide for centuries... So do cigarettes, booze, bullets, cheap women, and fast cars... I like all of those too! (Well maybe not so much on the cheap women... All I can ever seem to find are the ones who cost more than my cars!)
