The pilot super sports 30,000 mile treadwear warranty and 9,000 mile life for me means that my first set was ~$640 mounted and balanced but each subsequent set after pro-rated warranty adjustment runs me ~$250

$250 for a set of some of the top rated Street summer performance tires is pretty hard to beat.

 

Great news on the pro-rate price. But a 30k mi tire that only lasted 9k mi? Either the tire rating is off or your driving it like a rental.

Good thing they don't have a "how you drive" clause like some cars warranties.

 

I'm on my third set of Michelin pilot super sports. Typically, I see between 15 and 18,000 miles on the set, MOTD included.
Only the treadwear warranty makes it palatable.
That said, they are awesome tires.

 

OEM tires

Got the OEM summer tires that came with my new MINI, the are 17 run flats, dont have the correct number now, but can post it later. Anyone interested on them make a reasonable offer they have around 1K miles.

Tires are 205/45/17 Dunloop Sport Maxx RunFlats they got 1000+/- miles Tire Rack price is $254 ea ..

My Yokohama Avid Envigors wore out last winter just in time to put on the snow tires. So last week, when it was time to put summer tires back on, I bought new tires.

We're down to one income because my wife was ill, and my current job pays about $15K a year less than what I earned 4 years ago so finances are rather tight. So I went inexpensive. I got Nexen N7000s. First impressions, they are noticeably lighter in weight than the Yokohamas and the grip on dry is much better. It will be interesting to see how well they wear as our MINIs have negative camber in the rear and inexpensive tires don't usually wear very nicely. Whereas the Yokohamas were a quality tire. No weights were required to balance the wheels with Yokohamas and they wore out very evenly. I probably could have stretched a few more months out of the Yokos.

Having said that, it appears Nexens are fairly well tested for mounting on MINIs.

 

It'll be interesting to see how those ware and how you like them by the end of the season.

 

I had the Yoko Avid Envigors and replaced them a few months back with the Pilot Super Sports. The Yokos were good tires while they lasted. By the end of our relationship, I'd grown to dislike them, as they were hard as a rock and very slippery. I love the Michelins!
