I believe the sensors in the airbag systems in the "older" cars respond more to high-impact, straight-on frontal hits - but I guess I would have expected more airbag inflation from an R56. It looks like you tried to take the corners off the car with glancing blows, which wouldn't necessarily trigger the airbags. I'd sure contact MINI and ask, though, because it looks like you did everything you could to set off the bags.

    Glad you're OK ...

Whatever the force was to flip the car should trip the air bags.. Atleast it should be that way in every car made.. I know they have to not deploy for a minor fender bender but when the car is upside down they are probably needed..

I had this happen to me in a volvo 940 turbo no less. I got smacked on the freeway pretty darn hard and no deployment.

Always wondered what it would take to actually deploy them. Bodyshop just said that it was cause the sensors didn't take a hit.

    Glad you are ok.

Wow, rough ride... I do hope you go to a doctor and get a check out. :)

Glad you are OK, get another R56, enjoy....

If the 05 is clean and low mileage, perhaps. ;)

My father was an engineer at Honda, retired now, and I asked him why the air bags on my Acura didn't go off when I rear ended a car on the highway at 60-65. He said it was because the computer was able to compute the delta v of the the impact based on speed and the fact I was standing on the brake and decided that the air bag wasn't needed. Guess it take a little more than a sensor going off to trigger them. Keep in mind, the front end of my RSX was totally destroyed and the car I hit had minimal damage and was able to drive off.

I talked to the insurance company the other day to let em know, when I get back to the states I'll start the claim up. Kinda a Debbie downer on my trip knowing I have to go from 83 degrees here in Brazil to 20 degrees, then on top of that have to figure out what's up with the car. Ugh.

Might end up with a win win. Not an '05 like I thought but its an '03 like my old r50 same color and all :) wanted to save on a car note and this is less then my r56 so I might have a blessing here.

What ta y'all think, what's the ups and downs of an r53? He is a car guy and I have known him for a long time so I know he takes care of his stuff. http://columbiamo.craigslist.org/cto/4326372275.html

Price seems a bit steep for the year and milage.

Yea I'll talk him down. He is willing to work with me cause he knows me but I'm not too worried on the price. But the car itself is pretty solid for being an '03 and only 70k miles. Shoot I had 53k on my '09.

I agree the price vs mileage is a little high. It has some nice mods but I would only offer 10K as my high number and start at 8.5K and work up to 10K.

    This also concerns me:
    1. The car has had the SuperCharger rebuilt.
(Eaton does not make a rebuild kit for the M45 Supercharger period)
If the dealer installed an new one that's a different story.

    2. In the meantime the supercharger has been ported for more airflow
    (By Who)

    3. The car has been tuned accordingly. (again by who)

Well it's a R53 so what's not to love? There is a lot to be said about knowing a cars history and it has some nice mods. All that is real good. I realy like it. I think it would be a sweet ride. But the price is steep.
Maybe since he's a friend you can get a far price if so, GO FOR IT!
    Good luck.

That's a good looking car, but -- "driven only on weekends" ???

Didn't Richard Petty have some cars like that?

$13.5K is kinda high don'cha think?

For the SC rebuild I'm sure it was something like this https://jonbondperformance.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=26_15_119&products_id=613

I agree 13k is high and wouldn't give him that. I was looking at 10k for what I'd do like Dave.O said.

Yea he has a couple cars and his motorcycle. Like I said, he is willing to work with me and 10k would be my max.
