I think my chain tensioner being seized up let the chain slap against and chunk one of the chain guides. After installing a new tensioner it actually sounds worse ( tensioner was extended when installed).

    Any tips?

Changed them both out last night. The chain has to come off the cam gear before you can get the rear guide out. Front guide can be removed with the chain on the gear. The oil pan should be dropped and cleaned of plastic bits and I'd change the oil puck up tube.

Not a fun job but it's do able.

Like any other job the BMW TIS software is very help with the setup of the tear down and the torque specs.
