Sorry I am on the East Coast outside of Philly so I don't know of a shop local to you but someone local may know of one. As for the brake idiot light, It should go off when you twist the wires together and turn the car back on.
Dawnie just so you know we have a couple different groups on M/A. Those that don't do anything beside what MINI says they can do. Then we have people that never do anything than replace stuff with easy bolt on or cosmetic mods. Then the rest of us go completely nuts and find work arounds and disable airbags in seats, remove or modify brake sensors, override factory coding to turn on hidden features and have our cars custom tuned to make 100 hp over stock. I and a lot of other 1st gen owners fall into group 3 because we provide our own warranty since our cars are 8+ years old.
That depends. dawnie said the brake pads appear new. Twisting the wires together would work if the pads had been replaced without replacing the sensor wire. However if the sensor is intact, there is a break further up the line. There isn't enough information to go on at this point.
Alrighty.... Pulled wheels off... looked at sensors... one was in backwards... we cleaned it up and flipped it the right way.... All pesky lights still on... Pulled battery for 5 min.... all pesky lights still on.... Noticed though that pulling battery didn't reset my radio only on board computer seemed effected... Have a call into my uncle to see what he knows about Mini's (he is a mechanic) also found a non dealer mechanic who works with Mini's... On another note... Any idea as to extreme moisture in boot? In search of a tire iron that fit my sockets I found the totally awesome boot goodies all intact but there was more moisture that I would think normal...
How much moisture are we talking about? You have a leak somewhere. It should be completely dry -- no moisture at all.
The foam insulation on back of boot carpet is visibly damp with moisture beads on the metal... Drivers side... Passenger side is dry... No other moisture spots found thus far
^^^ That's odd and it should not be wet. Does your car have a sunroof? If yes look at the rear drains. You can find them by opening your rear hatch and look in the top right and left corners. If they are open you can check the seals around the hatch on the side that is wet. Also check the battery box. I would remove the battery and check for water and dry it. There is a drain plug in the bottom of box make sure it's not missing. Also take out the carpet and set it in the sun to dry.
Yes I have a sunroof... I'll check the hatch and see... As for taking carpet out to dry in the sun... It will be months before we see carpet drying sun here in WA... lol I've been compiling my list of things to fix... Any acronyms for MINI? Like for Jeeps (which I've owned) Just Empty Every Pocket....
Well if you can take out the carpet and hang it somewhere like a garage or basement it will air dry faster. You really don't want to leave it sealed in your car where it could produce a mold and a smelly moldy and musty smell.
One thought..... Since a bad wheel speed/abs sensor will cause a TRIFECTA of lights (you wil get three different lights)....the sensor should be fine... My thought.... I bet the button to reset the tire warning light is STUCK...bet it got something (crumbs) or soda/coffee gunk to make it stick.....even the shiny plastic protector, aka "amour-all" will contaminate the contacts in the switch.... So a q-tip...a drop or two of water....and a spray with contact cleaner (to clean and dry) may let it work....
I followed the typical instructions and cleared mine on my '03 R50, but it didn't clear while driving around right after as per the details. Instead it cleared the next morning after the car sat turned off all night.
Yup I have had this happen to me a few times in the past when it was very cold and my car had been sitting for a few days. (I do the below process while driving.) Hold the button in while driving. Push in the clutch and coast. Release the button and turn off the car by the key and put it back on and let out the clutch and it restarts and the light is gone. High speed tire light reset with a bump start. :eek6::lol:
Last time I did that I ended up in a bad way. Facing the wrong way on an Interstate with a truck bearing down on me. NEVER again will I try that trick.
