So it’s tire time! I have narrowed it down to three tires. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ExtremeContact+Sport&partnum=14YR8ECSXLOS&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Firehawk+Indy+500&partnum=14WR8FHI5XL&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes#RatingsReviews https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=G-MAX+RS&partnum=14YR8GMRSXL&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes the front runner is the Continentals. I won’t be tracking the Helmet but it will be used for some very spirited driving. The RE-71 on it are very good tires but way to loud. There is no way to have a conversation when it’s moving. I have tinnitus extremely bad so tire noise makes it I Imposable for me to hold a conversation. I hate tire noise. So I am looking for a tire with good grip and low noise. What do you guys think of my picks? If you have a favorite let me know
For these specific tires: 1st choice - Conti 2nd choice - Firestone 3rd choice - General no bad choices in this group
I'm on my second set of the Conti Extreme Contact for my R58 JCW. Great tire and I keep a compact spare behind the passenger seat.
Lee, any high performance summer tire will be noisy if they are not rotated enough. Of the tires you have listed I'd go with the Conti's.
I saw those and liked them but in 215/40 18 they are $157. It’s odd the price would be that different for the size
I had the older Conti DW tires a while back, and they were very quiet when new and mildly noisy by the time they were mostly worn out, but not much more than most other tires I’ve had. The Conti ExtremeContact Sports were also very quiet when new and when half worn, but then I lost the car to an accident, so I don’t know if they get a little noisy later.
I am a big fan of the Firestones. I am on my second set and have no complaints at all. Quiet and grippy. Had a set of the Ventus and hated them. Very short life and not as grippy as most.
Well after much back and forth on what to get and if I should just wait till later I decided on the Continentals. This morning I had decided to just wait. The tires on the Helmet are at the wear bars but I don’t drive it in the rain and they would last the summer. But then I thought maybe I should just go ahead and get them while they are on sale. Looks like I got the last4
320 AAA is pretty tacky - soft compound isn’t it? I run trough 500 AAA tIres on a l DD fairly quickly with a standard Mini alignment, a set a year.
Main reason I went to 17s, larger selection and definitely easier on the wallet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Interesting to see the first post mentioning the Bridgestone RE71Rs as being loud. I've never noticed that with mine, but Rufus is my 'fun' car (not a daily driver) and I've usually got the radio on and the windows down, so quietness isn't something I'm going for. I've got 2 new ones going on today and hopefully I'll be able to get Rufus out for a spin this weekend!
