Tonight I handled my first major vehicle collision as a firefighter. I've handled several prior to this that were less complex, but what an adrenaline rush. All survived and my team and the other responding agencies handled it perfectly.

Today is the day that my only child, Valentina, graduates from Walkersville high school, here in Frederick, Maryland. She finished her high school career as a four year varsity letter holder in swimming, team captain her senior year. In addition to her course of study at Walkersville, she attended The Frederick Career Technology Center and received her certificate in Medical Technology. At the CTC she was class president of Skills USA. She finished her high school career with an unweighted 4.0 grade point average. The last time I remember her bringing home a "B" on her report card was in elementary school.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and The Art National Honor Society. At Girls State, last summer, she was elected Governor of the State of Maryland.
Yesterday, at the Senior Awards Ceremony, she received the Outstanding Citizenship Award from the Sons of the American Revolution, The Merit Scholarship Award and the Outstanding Social Sciences Student award for her AP Psychology Class.
In addition to her full class load, she took Latin 1 through 4 online at nights and over the past two summers.
She received a nomination from our Representative John Delaney to West Point, as well as a nomination from Senator Barbara Mikulski to the Naval Academy. However, she will be joining the class of 2019 at the United States Coast Guard Academy for her college career. She was one of 260 in the class from a pool of more than 18,000 applicants.
    I couldn't be prouder.

Today is a day I will lower my flags to half staff, to honor the loss of our fallen Cal Fire air tanker pilot. Tanker 81, an S-2T based out of Hollister, crashed Tuesday afternoon while fighting the Dog Rock Fire in the Merced River canyon area, near the west entrance of Yosemite National Park.

This is a very sad time for everyone in my fire service world. Please join me in a prayer to honor and support the pilot's family, the men and women of Cal Fire and the entire family at Dyna Corp.

    Thank you all very much.

    Joke of the day

Sent to me from my British car buddy Bill....

Husband: I've lost my wife. She went shopping yesterday and still hasn't come home.
Sergeant: What is her height ?
    Husband: Oh, 5 something . . .
    Sergeant: Build?
Husband: Not slim, not really fat.
    Sergeant: Color of eyes?
    Husband: Never noticed.
    Sergeant: Color of hair?
    Husband: Changes according to season.
    Sergeant: What was she wearing?
    Husband: Dress/suit/blue jeans -- I don't remember exactly.
Sergeant: Did she go in a car?
    Husband: Yes.
Sergeant: What kind of car was it?
Husband: A 1962 Austin Healey BN7 with factory hardtop, Healey Blue
metallic paint, with the triple carbs, 4 speed center shift transmission &
3.54 rear end, 123 electronic ignition, Udo Putzke tube shock conversion and
has a very thin scratch on the front left door.
At this point the husband started crying.
Sergeant: Don't worry sir.......We'll find your car
