Today is the day that my only child, Valentina, graduates from Walkersville high school, here in Frederick, Maryland. She finished her high school career as a four year varsity letter holder in swimming, team captain her senior year. In addition to her course of study at Walkersville, she attended The Frederick Career Technology Center and received her certificate in Medical Technology. At the CTC she was class president of Skills USA. She finished her high school career with an unweighted 4.0 grade point average. The last time I remember her bringing home a "B" on her report card was in elementary school. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and The Art National Honor Society. At Girls State, last summer, she was elected Governor of the State of Maryland. Yesterday, at the Senior Awards Ceremony, she received the Outstanding Citizenship Award from the Sons of the American Revolution, The Merit Scholarship Award and the Outstanding Social Sciences Student award for her AP Psychology Class. In addition to her full class load, she took Latin 1 through 4 online at nights and over the past two summers. She received a nomination from our Representative John Delaney to West Point, as well as a nomination from Senator Barbara Mikulski to the Naval Academy. However, she will be joining the class of 2019 at the United States Coast Guard Academy for her college career. She was one of 260 in the class from a pool of more than 18,000 applicants. I couldn't be prouder.
That's great Whales! Sounds like you have raised a fine young lady and you are right to be proud. I'm sorry the Air Force Academy didn't get a shot at her.
Today is, National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day. For some it's Donald Duck Day, he is over 70 years old, but doesn't act a day over 20.
