Sounds like you have someone that cares about the work they do and is very thorough with his investigation. That is rare these days.

Good luck, hope you get some good news soon.

It's now almost two weeks since the car was dropped off. Even allowing for the Thanksgiving weekend, it's been a long time. My mechanic reported to me that he did not have the big mongo scanning tool to check a few things but his associate down the road had one and requested permission to take the car to him. The net result just reported to me is that the passenger window failure was interconnected to the top not going up. He is getting a motor and installing it this afternoon. I hope to have a follow up later. In the meantime I find it difficult to accept that the passenger window failing would cause a top failure as well. However with todays interconnected cars, anything is possible I guess!

I will report to the commissioner as soon as I hear anything.

Plausible. The system attempts to run the front and rear windows down before putting the top up. I suppose if a window motor is kaput, or a limit sensor isn't reading, it could prevent the sequence from proceeding.

Well Mr Mechanic called me a little while ago and announced that the new window motor did in fact fix the problem. I'm picking the car up tomorrow and hope everything is as he said. I'm having a tough time believing that the window motor could cause the problem, BUT given all the interconnectivity of todays automobiles I suppose it isn't too far fetched. Being from the old school of points, plugs, and distributors with vacuum advances all this new fangled technology makes my head hurt!!

 YEAH!! Motoring, topless motoring is the best.
just for a point of reference, it's 20º out this morning and the top is DOWN.

(It was 35º yesterday morning and the guys at coffee thought I was nuts, I called them weenies. If I run it up this morning, they'll call me a weenie, I'm sure, so...)

I picked the car up about an hour ago and am glad to tell everyone that the car works perfectly and even the trunk that seemed to lock after every use is functioning as it should. Nothing makes any sense to this 64 year old mind, but it works and I shall motor on~~~~

Road trip starting this weekend to visit my grandson for his first birthday!!! YES!! BTW, his daddy has a mini already so there's hope in the family. LOL

Missed that call. There was some whispering about calling the 'home' for emergency assistance.
