I just swapped my steering wheel last week to the JCW leather/alcantara wheel. When I did it the first time, I followed the step-by-step instructions here: http://www.billswebspace.com/MiniR53JCWSteeringWheelInstallation.htm

After driving it for a week, I decided that I installed it just slightly off-center, and so I pulled it again and fixed it. When I went to my Bentley manual for the torque value, I realized that it was only showing the two-spoke wheel - and the torque value was lower!

The site I used last week said to torque to 63 Nm or 46.46 ft-lbs. The Bentley manual says 45 Nm or 33 ft-lbs.

Is this because of the different steering wheel? I notice that the airbag in the two-spoke wheel is bolted in, whereas the three-spoke wheel uses a spring-clip system to hold the airbag.

I'd split the difference & call it good if it was on my MINI.

Found a TIS doc for installing the JCW wheel. It agrees with the first (higher) value, which is what I decided to use when I re-torqued it. I'll see if I can post it here...

I didn't think you could install it off center. When I swapped mine it had a keyed slot at the tdc.
