I thought this was about putting an iPad on the boot. I now feel somewhat stupid for thinking that.

OK, reach under the middle of the back seat & feel for a ring. Pull it & your boot will open. Early MINIs did not have one. Hopefully yours will.

    Welcome to M/A!

I did the same, so at least you're not alone. I was trying to figure out what the mod would actually be used for... custom tailgater messages... the GPS app with "You are here" on it for the benefit of other motorers... mount a camera on the front bumper and feed its view to the iPad so it looks like you've got a hole running the length of the MINI... so many possibilities!

The boot latch handle gasket is your problem. They deteriorate over time and when water gets in, all sorts of interesting things happen. My license plate light are shorted out and my fob won't work. The dealer wants $300 to fix it.

Best of luck on your repairs!

I don't know how much the part costs, but if you call Classic MINI & tell them you are a N-A-M member  they will give you a nice discount on the part. Replacing it looks very straight forward.
