That’s good. Huf is the only one known to work on this generation of Mini

Still not sure if the incompatibility was the
    U-Pro sensors themselves or the
programming of the sensors or both,
but I’m sure glad it’s all working with the
    Huf sensors.
I suggest staying away from generic
    programmable ones for these MINIS
unless your shop has had previous
success with them with your year and
    model.

Could the TPMS devices be set up for the wrong scale ?? 3.5 bar is over 50 psi so maybe that is causing the snafu. This is only a guess on my part as I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Put on the summer tires, pushed reset,
and the light went off within a block
and stayed off for the 20 miles I rode.
Check=OK and nothing wrong on a full
    scan (which includes the RDC).
Put the winter tires on and the light went
out after 5 miles, only to come back again
    With an “inactive” warning.
Tried to reset 3 more times with similar results.
Looks like they either put on the wrong
    sensors (U-Pro 422Mhz 21262) or
    programmed them wrong.

Fault codes on scan are now:
    604E rdc control
    6054 rdc front left
    6055 front right.
There is no pressure data or sensor numbers
for any of the wheels now.
Clearing the faults and resetting again didn’t work.

Yeah, but seeing the low tire light has
    made the difference between just
plugging a nail hole and running too low
and trashing the sidewalk (= whole new tire)
    on several occasions.

They are in my new bike! With the touch screen I can see my tire as I ride. It’s crazy the stuff it can do.

That would be nice. I have said this before but in aviation as pilots have been told to rely heavily on automation safety actually went down. There is a youtube video that addresses some of this, it's called Children of the magenta. What has been found is a well trained pilot that uses the correct level of automation is what produces the highest level of safety. I instruct in Boeing 757/767, in the Sim and aircraft, I teach my students when the $hit hits the fan it's time to take over and fly.
The problem with this safety equipment in cars is it is designed to aid in a fully involved drivers situational awareness. In the U.S. we refuse to train drivers properly. The thought of some brain dead driver texting thinking that the safety equipment will save them, because we now they only care about themselves, scars the crap out of me.

I think these TPMS sensors have PMS.

The third time wasn’t charming at all. The shop took the advice they got from U-Pro and
tried to reconfigure the sensors with a different year's file. For some reason they suggested
using 2010 instead of 2009 even though that's after the change to a different oem sensor
    per realoem's part numbers.
They then tried 2008 but couldn't get the file to write and I'm back to square one again.
They had it in the bay 3 times over a couple hours. Since the U-Pro rep was so convincing
that their suggestions would work this time, they hadn't ordered a different brand sensor as
they were originally going to do earlier this week, and now I'll have to wait until Tuesday
afternoon for them to (hopefully) get Huf or Schrader sensors (MINI oem brands).
This is a shop that has been around since 1961 and I have been going there for decades
without any previous problems at all, and since it looks like it's primarily a manufacturer's
issue, I'd like to give them another chance to do it right with a different manufacturer.

I'm waiting to be charmed for real next week.

Ugh ! That would have pissed me off, but like you said you have been going to them for decades and this is your first issue so I understand cutting them some slack.

The correct frequency is 433mhz. Return the Upro sensors and get Huf.

Installed ones are programmable 433 MHZ
U-Pro and I gather the main problem is in
    the programming.
The shop is ordering Huf or Schrader and
    should have them by tomorrow.

Tire rack sent me my summer tires and
wheels with Huf RDE048V21 sensors in
them last May just after I got the MINI, and
    they worked immediately without any
    problems.

Wow - never seen or had this problem before. Glad it's figured out, seemed like a real PIA.
