I think a trailer would be a far better solution than hanging several hundred pounds out past the back bumper of a Cooper......I see those carriers - usually on the back of an SUV - and even there they look precarious.

One of those trailers I found had what looked like a plastic blowmoulded cover - lightweight and keeps the weather out - looked pretty interesting. Let us know what you wind up doing, OK?

Harbor Freight has an inexpensive trailer that would be perfect for this use - it even folds up so you can hang it on the garage wall....add a plywood floor and some D-rings to tie it down and you're golden.

Also here's a company that makes trailers specifically for mobility scooters and such. They don't show prices on their website but claim their trailers are light enough to be towed by a Smart car or electric car. Some are fully enclosed too.
