I got a message too about links in signature, the funny thing is the link was to a personal networking site like Facebook or MySpace, but car based, and the moderator that "edited" my sig had his or her twitter and facebook URL in their sigs.
It's pretty stupid for NAM to try to censor URLs, that's just too easy:

Over the years I have lost, for one reason or another, a lot of my sewing site pictures. So I just saved them all back, in case someone decides to block me from my gallery there.

:eek6: I wonder if "they" ever come here to check up on us?
My buddy got a 150 pt violation for a post saying "the mods have turned to the dark side too".

Now now...
Some of the staff there are members here as well.
No reason to speak poorly of them. It's a thankless job as you well know Mark. Even worse when the ship has no rudder. -

Another prespective
It gets messy though. Lots like to write all the crap that they've bolted to thier car, and that's cool, but when they become active links to vendor sites it's like free advertising. When those companies don't pay to be a vendor it undermines the site revenue stream and the vendors who do pay.
It's an area of grey for sure and it's a hard one to police.

I'm of the opinion that if a member wants to talk about a project they did and where they bought the stuff so long as it adds to the general knowledge thats all well and good. When there are links to vendors that are not advertisers they are looked at for context. In 99.9% of the cases so far its not been an issue. But we have asked a very few people to remove a link when it is blatant they are pushing an agenda. I can think of one instance to date here. -

If you don't have anything good to say then don't say nothing! Life is too damn short to do this. I had problem with a vendor and it took alot longer than I wanted but they did keep me informed and came thru with the product with a discount for being so understanding. Would I go online and bash them, no! I made several calls, talked to them about the problem and we got it solved! I am happy and they should be happy! As for NAM its just like what happens when the government takes over! There is nothing as permanent as a temporary government program!

Yes, the needle is getting very dull on the sewing site.

Wow, sounds like something you would expect from a country like China or North Korea. :yikes: -
We need to look at the context to which that is said.
It was recommend by IB that a certain vendor does not respond to posts created by myself and PGT when we point out what a shady character the vendor can be. I'm a little to outspoken at times and do not hold back when pointing out in grave detail some of the transgressions that are noted. -
Case in point that IB only cares about the advertising dollars this questionable vendor generates.
Now I can appreciate taking care of the people that take care of you. Thats business and IB has to answer to their shareholders. Honestly we do not pay squat here or on the sewing site.
What I think is lost to them though is that if the 'product' loses it quality the reason the vendors pay advertising goes away, the readership.
That argument does not hold much water cause it seems for every experienced MINI enthusiast that bails 3 more noobs sign up. #'s look good to the advertisers but content fades
I'm not sure how the internet business works as far as how advertsing rates are realized. I'm guessing based on verifiable subscribers. That being the case it's gonna be a long profitble slide for the sewing siteopcorn:
