Tracy,
Sorry about the other drama in this thread. Let me try to explain below with a non bias reply to your question.
If you are not racing your Mini and you still have your stock OEM mounts your motor will move as it is designed to. Racing mounts are made stiffer so tq is not lost when the motor twist.
OEM mounts allow for a higher amount of movement and a better ride quality with less vibrations to the typical everyday driver.
The side tranny mount (drivers side) should never fail so that sould be ok for a longtime.
The bottom mount could get loose over time and need to be replaced but most do not fail.
The top motor mount ( on the passenger side ) is the problem mount, on the R53, years 2005 & 2006 the latest mount they used was fluid filled and tends to leak and fail over time.
You can replace it with another OEM mount but that will fail again overtime. The best way to tell if the mount it is bad or leaking is look at the frame rail right under the mount for fresh fluid.
You may also hear a slight clunking sound when someone revs the engine and you look at the mount. While looking at the mount with someone rev-ing the motor you may even see some fluid leak out if it has any left in it and it has failed.
Hope that helps answer your question, if I missed anything or you need more detailed help shoot me a PM and I will be glad to help you out.

I have the BSH "street" lower mount and a VIP upper mount (like the TSW) and a Powerflex tranny mounts and "Yes" you will get more NVH with any non-oem rubber mounts or bushings. The more you add the worse it gets. Rubber is the softest and it will absorb the most vibrations. Adding Braces and Polly-not so much...:nonod:
The stiffer the bushings around the motor the more MVH you will get.
Dont get me wrong my car does not shake like Michael J. Fox but it does vibrate a "little".
If want a nice cushy ride I take the wifes Lexus RX 350buts its no fun on a twisty road at all.

Whats the big secret with your so called "modified" BSH mount? Are you drilling holes in it to add more flex?
Updated I see your mod now: "bushing on the normally solid end"
With your modified BSH mount (street or race) version you may as well just used the OEM one.-

Oh Jiminni Crickets,
They are a site sponsor not a vendor. God your are such a ,,, never mind, whatever, your are not worth my time anymore. Maybe you should let the "Custom Mini Shop" post for themselves
Here are some cold hard facts no one can argue but I bet you will.
Mynes is not a site sponsor or vendor here either, just like your buddy.
They cannot even post because just like your bubbly they have been BANNED.
Which does say a whole lot about a "vendor?"
How many cars have YOU worked on? I have worked on many more than just my own. Right now I am thinking about putting radiators in my doors. Lol
The last sentence above was a joke, just incase you did not get it.:ihih::lol:-

However, it has never been allowed to shill for an entity. The number of times and methods used to push the custom BSH mount by you Jim along with the fact that elsewhere you say you work for or with Custom MINI Shop has me questioning if you are an employee of said entity that needs to have your user ID changed to reflect that you receive compensation from same.
BTW, Custom MINI Shop is not a site sponsor like Detroit Tuned, OutMotoring, Way Motor Works and others. Custom MINI Shop has a Local Shop Listing.-

I wonder if BSH will warrenty the modified part when it breaks? I wonder if it was tested and approved to be modifided by BSH? Who would / will the owner file a law suit against if someone has and accident with a part that has been modified beyond it's intended use.
These are all things you should consider before you take someone elses product and change it and make it untested and potentionaly unsafe. Be very careful the house you could loose is your own. .... Just saying
Do you worry Jiminni I won't buy one of those pre-weakened aluminum lower engine mounts.-

I definitely agree with that there is added performance. I love the tsw mount now that it is sufficiently broken in. I added some dynamate to the doors to help reduce the droning low frequency vibration. I am now very pleased with the response, but though that adding the Bsh may help even more and would also make shifting a little smoother. I just didn't want to add gobs more nvh since its my daily and I drive quite a bit.

I have both the TSW and BSH. While yes it does add more NVH, I would not trade them for anything. I cannot say if just doing the BSH lower adds more than just the TSW because I did both at the same time.

I have the tsw and bsh mount also the powerflex insert for the transmission. I will say there is a lot of nvh with this set up. I wouldn't change it though I'm used to my daily drivers ending up sounding like a race car. The mini just took longer for me to get it there. Also I have a m7 stb I highly doubt it helps dampen any of the vibration.

Good point on the brace. I was trying to relate it to the way dynomat works. Dynomat dampens resonate frequencies by adding more mass to the body panels you apply it to. Was just thinking the upper stabilizer might solidify the front end making it on larger more dense object therefore dampening some of the vibration and noise. As it sounds, I'm probably just grasping at straws. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm glad to hear you guys like having the Bsh mount as well. Did it smooth your shifting any? I'll probably have to put one in this spring!
