A bit of in car footage from Sebring (Corvette DP, night practice, yesterday...I think). The race is tomorrow. Wrote a nice email to IMSA today saying they are losing me as a fan since the TV coverage is so broken apart.
I've been wondering why they split the broadcast schedule like that. I can only guess, does anyone actually know why they do it?
Ask and you shall learn. I wrote back to the same guy that had replied to me before to ask your question and thank him for taking the time to reply to my earlier email.
An answer. I'm almost shocked! I guess it makes sense that Fox is the culprit. But I don't believe it's all about conflicts since they can plan well in advance. The real issue is priority and, I suspect, trying to get people to watch more than just their primary sports network but also hoping people will gripe to their providers to get them to carry them all. None of that means IMSA can't stream it all, though, unless Fox would gripe about it. And I also don't like the potential slippery slope caused by full streaming. I'd rather the pressure be on showing full races on TV, and streaming everything might actually mean even less pressure to broadcast. I guarantee I'll change my mind about that preference if (when?) I finally decide to cut the cable. Broadcast races are the main reason I haven't done it...yet.
I've been streaming this race to the iPad then over to the Ap-ple TV thingie. It's all in high def. The announcers commentary is IMSA Radio. I've watched about 4 hours worth. Not a single commercial break. No replays for the most part unless Fox gives it to the stream. Most of the pit interviews are sound only while on the screen is often the roof cam view from various cars.
I watched the race most of the day. I started on TV then like Nathan on my iPad in the garage as I worked on cars. I quit for a little bit then I was going to watch the end. But the streaming had stopped then cable went out when it came up I realized it was on Fox2.....I don't get that station. :mad2:
I know it's late, but if you missed the crew member getting mowed down in pit lane at Sebring, here are a couple videos (including one from in-car cameras, that one is new to me) and a story. I only saw the short replay, missed that part of the race. How is it Krohn's fault? I guess I don't know how this played out. All I can see is Krohn was on the outside and the other guy did the actual damage.
I don't feel Tracy Krohn as needing to be banned. They need to look at this accident very closely & figure out what happened. If there is a penalty to be had maybe both of those drives should sit out one race. That crewman is exceedingly lucky for sure & for that I'm thankful.
Here is a vid of the accident. The middle car was let go unsafely, BUT Krohn actually turned into him as the other car was entering the pit lane. His excuse......he was adjusting the fuel on the steering wheel. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqFY32gMjKo"]Crew member hit and flipped on pit road during 12 Hours of Sebring - YouTube[/ame]
I believe what Krohn said. Lots of things to do while leaving pit road, settings & even pulling your harness tight. That being said it didn't look like Krohn moved right more than a couple of inches. The real bonehead move was Drissi trying to slot is car through where there was zero room for him. I'd say it is 25-75 as to whose fault it was. As I said both drivers need some kind of slap so they remember not to do that again. Much better perspective with this video.
Well, I guess I can be accused of being a bit biased as I put T. Krohn in the same category as Nic Jonsonn...........both a hack drivers IMHO.
