    Yeah...
I'll let you know what is actually replaced when it comes in tomorrow. This whole time I was thinking a flat plate that would mount over the turbo. But in the pics you gave, and Matt's comments about a newer version, I'm anxious to see what the dealer means.

I'll make sure i update with parts and pics, I'll ask if i can keep the old one as well to compare.

    Usually...

they keep the parts for warranty repair. They have to waste time and money shipping them so they can be recycled at headquarters!

Apparently, the new chrome hood scoops come with their own heat shield to protect them from warping. (MINI must've realized the problem by now.) Personally, I'm about to have them install hood scoop #4. #1 melted, the paint flaked off #2, and #3 is starting to warp too. Isn't there a saying about doing something over and over and expecting a different result?

JC55, the line that's rusted in your pic in your first post is the water line, not the oil line - just FYI.

Yeah, that's true, but with all the rust you have going, check all those lines out. If any one of them were to let go, it wouldn't be good. If you are going to replace one, you might just as well replace them all. Or not?

Now I'm wondering what rust I have. I know mine has some, but don't know if it's as bad as JC55MINI's.

Still have not encountered the melting hood scoop issue (((fingers crossed)))

Just wanted to update with the turbo shield that MINI installed. It works pretty based on a spirited run and hand test on the hood scoop.

Well that's interesting. I wonder why my new scoop didn't include the added insulation? Would you mind sharing the P/N for the aluminum part? It should be on your paperwork.

    Interesting indeed...

so instead of different plastic like others have said that would be used, they just insulated the scoop with a heat shield! Will wonders never cease!

REALoem has through 1/2010 builds. The part can't be found there!

Well, the funny thing about my warranty work for the scoop, had to do with my initial visit. When I asked about the work they would do, I was told I would get a redesigned / improved replacement scoop (i verified this with the new P/N). They also mentioned that additional insulation would be added. You can read this in my previous comment earlier in this thread. When I picked up the MINI after the work was done, I asked about the additional insulation. They told me, no, that wasn't needed with the new scoop.

    Seems strange!:incazzato:

Is there a part number listed on the work order for the heat shield?

    Here's what i have -

Part number for scoop - 51-13-2-757-695
Part number for shield - 51-48-2-183-986

    See below:
    100919-213000.jpg

Kind of odd name for the shield. Weird how my dealer added it with no hesitation at all. Anyone know if my scoop is the new one or the old?

Thanks very much though for posting the part number. I might just add it now as preventative maintenance.

'Isolierung' means isolation, I imagine RME stands for something about heat or scoop

That's the same part number for the "new" scoop that is currently in the paint shop for my car. My dealer said it was the redesigned part.

This issue with the hood scoops has been going on for some time.

It's quite possible that the introduction of the metal heat shield was an interim step until they could get a new injection molding die built.

The metal heat shield could be put into production practically over night as a problem solver. Whereas the injection molding tooling can have extended lead-times.

JC55MINI, you might be the happy recipient of both solutions. Remaining inventory at your MINI dealer? This could explain the reason why the heat shield P/N doesn't show up on realoem.

Another question for my SA, perhaps?

Oh, and you do have the new scoop.
