If you are doing any big MINI/Mini event I would highly recommend having FRS radios. Every group that I know of uses them. And they make life much easier on any group drive.

Motorola walk-a-bouts from any Sporting goods store.
They are reliable and have many accessories.
You can even find them on Amazon or flee Bay.
The longer the range the better, they are good for car rallies and winter Skiing.
Here is just one example:

Yeah no matter what radio you have they don't work well at places like the Dragon.
Unless you are all in the same valley like Fontana. -
Yea, I knew they would not work so well. Heck, look where I live.....land lines barely work!! lol lol Seriously, do I need one? I am really horrible about keeping up so just wanted to make sure I did not get left 'out of the loop'......I am going on the BRPT & know NOTHING about the area or anyone that is going.
Thanks for all the input......most all are rated the same with the same comments pretty much. -

For our club runs, I always take a set of Motorola FRS radios but I usually do not find the FRS radios very beneficial because if I am leading and someone falls way behind, I cannot hear them clearly or at all on the radio, especially over engine noise. However, we usually drive in canyon areas with very short line of sight distances so that does not make radio comm easy.
I now tend to rely more on handsfree cell phones. Of course coverage is not available everywhere especially on back roads. -

We use Midland GTX1000 radios. Sound is good, clear, and loud if needed. Decent range, side channels, set comes with a charger. The radios have a clip on the back, so I clip them on my shoulder belt.
Have a Motorola set that isn't loud enough in my R53.
